Re: DRM Restrictions

I wouldn't convert these DRM tracks to FLAC as that would be a waste as their audio quality is no greater than an MP3. There are several approaches to converting these files (their extension is probably M4P). You can Google various approaches - some you have to pay for, but the one I found most usef...

Re: Need help with moving files

When you think about it, folders are largely irrelevant to the operation of MM (3, 4, or 5) as is the case for most music player programs. For example, two tracks could be in the same MM album even if they were in quite different folders because what matters is that the album title and album artists...

Re: Need help with moving files

By far the best way to move files is by using Auto-organize. This way, MM does not lose track of where the files are. With the proper mask, you should able to preserve the file structure.

Re: New user....2 Basic Questions.

I can -today - buy a 5 terrabyte external drive for $150 CDN. That FLAC takes more digital space than MP3 is not an issue. (I will admit that asking $244 for a 1T micro sd is a bit much, but a 128GB card is about $40 and will hold a lot of FLAC files.) The issue of whether one can tell the audible d...

Re: Track Summary and Summary columns [#16600]

Artist(s) are the performers of the Track, Album Artist is the performer the Album is released by/associated with. In case of compilations Album Artist would be something like Various Artists, Various, VA depending on what you prefer to use: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHelp:Editing_Album_Pr...

Re: Some Suggestions, BUGS, and Questions...

1) There is this bug fixed in build 2507: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=100193&hilit=mp3+separator otherwise, MediaMonkey follows the ID3 standards for tagging. So, what are those standards and "how" should things be separated? ID3 (V1 superseded by V2) is...

Re: Classical music - why the separate node?

There is a field specifically for Composer in MM (4 and 5) as well as a specific field for Conductor, allowing Artist to be used for ensemble, orchestra and/or soloists. The Classical Collection is useful because it allows the MM user to set up different displays for classical versus other types of ...

Re: Sorting by Album Artist?

Yes I understand, but then why from the same library folder, the artists are well classified and grouped in MM4 and not with MM5? To avoid having to edit all the tracks, you need an "album artist" button For example, I have a Johnny Hallyday compilation. Track 1 the artist is Johnny alone...

Re: Renaming from Album (Disk 1) to Album no disk field

This is most likely a metadata issue and not an MM malfunction, but some details are needed. Is this disk 1 of a multi-disk set? What is the disk? Is there a release of the disk somewhere that doesn't have the last 4 tracks? What metadata source are you using? Is the album artist for the last 4 trac...

Chromecast can't connect after connection is lost

I know everyone is tired of me saying this, but MM's implementation of Chromecast in MM5 is very poor. Every other program I use - INCLUDING MMA on three different android devices - finds and plays to my Chromecast devices with no issues. MM5 can't even find them. I don't have to reboot anything to ...

Re: Chromecast Audio Device Support

I have reported this several times with details and logs. MM5 always blames someone else for the problem. Chromecast works flawlessly with Roon. I never have to reboot anything. That's why MM5 sits mostly unused except for auto-organize; I doubt I have played a single track using MM5 in 6 months. My...

Re: can't find metadata

freedb is unavailable because freedb closed down over a year ago. There seems to be an attempt to keep it alive at gnudb but it I am not sure how well that is working out or if any music players are using it (none that I use seem to be). As lowlander suggests, musicbrainz is an alternative but it is...

Chromecast Audio Device Support

My experience is that MM5's audio Chromecast support is very inconsistent and unreliable. Sometimes it is there and other times not, mostly not (though it does always find the TV Chromecast). Fortunately, I have other music players where audio Chromecast support is consistent and reliable. They get ...

Re: Add/Rescan files is clunky in MM5 [#18052]

I followed yarguy's method until: At this point I could not find a way to direct the new files to the proper genre folder because my genre folder structure is different than the Genre(s) tag. My library is heavily loaded with international artists, the Genre(s) tag has a much more complicated mixtu...

Re: Add/Rescan files is clunky in MM5 [#18052]

Using MM5 "I receive a new album" I download it - or rip it - into C:\New Music\ (dbpoweramp rips to there automatically and winrar is set to extract to here for zipped downloads) I click on File - Add/Rescan C:\New Music\ is already checked Click scan now Open auto playlist Added Today (i...
