Hi,
You should try few things.
1. Make sure WASAPI is not in EXCLUSIVE MODE (Also in Sound Control panel under sound card Advanced settings set that no app is allowed to take exclusive access)
2. Change to Direct sound output
Let us know if that fixes crashes? And if Yes revert to original settings and see if MM will start crashing again.
MM stopped playing sometime during the night.
When I tried to maximize the window nothing seemed to happen. After a couple of attempts it looked like mm had closed itself. I tried to start a new instance but it hung after opening up.
Task manager showed five MediaMonkey, exe running, killed them all and tried again with luck

A difficult restart is a common and annoying issue following a MM5 crash. See this thread.
Someone else (Dryst) reported an issue where MM5 crashed when if was left running for a long time. He submitted a workaround to get MM5 to auto-restart here.
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.
