B0042 - Bug: Not All Songs Synced Onto Device despite being in M3U playlist

Bug Report
Serious
MM v4.1.29.1910 (portable mode)

The music device is indicating that a playlist has far fewer songs than is in the playlist. Example:
* Songs in playlist computer/MediaMonkey: 1763
* Lines in the M3U playlist: 1763
* Songs validated by device to that m3u playlist: 753

With the device's SD card mounted in Windows, I tried opening the playlist in both PotPlayer and VLC and both report a large number of M3U entries don't exist in the SD card's file system. Looking at partial error logs from VLC, I found the filenames referenced in the M3U. Since I flattened the directory structure using Sync Masks, all files should be in the same directory. So path is not a problem. I searched for the referenced file in explorer.exe and none of the files that VLC/PotPlayer had problems with were actually on the filesystem. Therefore, I can now say with 100% certainty that it's MM that is not copying over all the songs it should be. Also, MM is not reporting any Sync errors. Note: Since I've been trying to make this work for weeks now, each time I sync, I start with an SD card whose \music directory I delete. That way, it forces MM to redo everything instead of having probelms with a delta update.

Can this get fixed in MM4? MM5 has too many bugs for me to use outside of a beta environment. I've spent way too long on this database (years) to let MM 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 mess it up. I also sent back the original music player thinking it was defective but the replacement does exactly the same... so it's 100% not the player. I hope this gets fixed soon since I have 2 paperweights now.

Here's the Sync Mask I'm using:

Code: Select all

Music\<Artist:2><Title:2><Track#><Filename:2><Album:2><Genre:2><Year><Bitrate><Extension>
The directory listing of the SD card: https://stellar7.org/MM/B0042/SD%20card ... isting.txt

The M3u8 playlist file: https://stellar7.org/MM/B0042/playlist.m3u8

I think this is PART of the problem but not related to this post (non-ASCII charactersets).

PotPlayer shows only one error at a time opening files from the playlist but it echoes the same missing files as VLC:

I searched for several of the unplayable files reported by PotPlayer & VLC and they do not exist on the filesystem:

Device configuration. I've been trying to create a hash/flat/simple directory/file structure thinking that the player had problems with paths that were too long. It might have file/directory name handling limitations but the output hash filesnames are so simple that it shouldn't have this problem the way it's currently configured. Plus, this same problem existed with the default MM profile for this device.

Remove the Playlist files, then capture a full sync in a debug log (step 4b): https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... p?f=7&t=69

I deleted the entire \music directory so it recreated the playlists and all the files (instead of just updating).
It said it's copying over 2043 files. There is some overlap of files between playlists but there should be a lot more than just 2043 files.
