There is a half check setting in Media Tree config option.
Is this intentional? ... If so, what does it do?
It is confusing ... ie. I think that I have suppressed visibility, but it appears to be broken ... because I was not expecting that it would require a second click.

The half-checked state means "visible if not empty", I agree that it is not clear at all, added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16350
