Severe problem: Tagging might delete songs

Post by Dread »

Hi there,

When tagging mp3-files I sometimes experience a severe problem recently: After tagging the file is very small (e.g. 10k), only about a second of music is left.

I don't no how to reproduce this error, but it might only occur while playing a song (not in the list of files to be tagged)

I have not experienced this problem in earlier versions.

I'm using windows XP and Mediamonkey 1.596.

Any help?

tagging problem

Dread,

I haven't been able to reproduce this. Has this happened on more than one occasion?

Can you send me the 1 second file that was created following the tagging operation?

Has anyone else observed this?

Hi Rusty,

Yes, it happens occasionally. I haven't experienced this behaviour in Build 593 running on Win98.

I just did some testing and I will send you two 'killed' files by e-mail.

Cheers,

The only way I can imagine this happens is for a file that is damaged and starts only with zeroes. Then such zeroes in the beginning are treated as a padding of ID3v2 tag and are removed (correctly). This way a file which originally had several megabytes can end up with only a few kilobytes. However, this cannot happen for files that really contain music, it can happen for damaged files only.
