HiRes Files [#18340 #18537]
I want to use MediaMonkey to stream my music to my HiFi.
I notice that it transcodes some files which is definitely not want I want to do.
Is there a way to play DSD/DSF files at native resolution instead of transcoding?
Regards and thanks

Re: HiRes Files
That's set in the Media Server settings, you may need to adjust Support Formats: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... .28DLNA.29
Note that sometimes devices have limited support over DLNA, while supporting more formats for files on USB drives.

Re: HiRes Files
The supported formats DSD or DSF files in the 'Auto Conversions' tab do not list DSD nor DSF.
Am I right in assuming these are not supported?
I have all the 'supported Audio Formats' checked.
Also, with all the 'Auto Conversions' options unchecked am I right in assuming no transcoding will take place?

Wow! Thanks!
Positive feedback! What a refreshing change!
I previously tried MusicBee but got fed up with the abuse and sarcasm whenever I asked for help!
Next step is getting it to stream using Android...

Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
Is it possible to play .dsf DSD files without auto-conversion to PCM 24/44 via Mediamonkey without using a DLNA device (.i.e. just MM5+USB DAC)? I can't get it to work despite using the ASIO output plugin.

Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
Hi,
JUST tested and ASIO plugin do not support BIT Streaming required for DSF playback.
NOTE: I have done extensive testing of Outputs not long time ago and WASAPI even in Shared mode proved best supported solution on any equipment less than 5k-10k USD in which case a specific Audio Player is prefered due the fact it is optimized/calibrated for use with such equipment in which PC is only used as File reader and equipment decode and do the rest.
ASIO plugin as never officially supported in MM, Even if it works I would suggest that you use WASAPI in Exclusive Mode if you want Bit perfect playback.

Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
Many thanks for your reply. I tried the WASAPI exclusive mode (options: use original format of track/automatic choice of format per track) and also played around with the other options given, unfortunately the same result: Mediamonkey 5 auto-converts DSD to PCM 24/44. Is it possible that Mediamonkey isn't able to play .dsf DSD files natively? I'm asking because properties->details of .dsf files always shows 24/44 in MM5.

Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
Hi,
My guess is that 24/44.1 is safe bet for DAC.
More info on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_St ... SD_vs._PCM
DSF can't be auto set by DAC, mine do not support 1 / 128 (or 256/512), so I set it to 24/192 and let my DAC DSP do the UP/DOWN scaling.MMuser78 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 10:51 amMany thanks for your reply. Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
My DAC supports native DSD up to DSD128 (I only have DSD64 files anyway) but unfortunately MM5 doesn't. Are there any plans to change this? I'd prefer native output of DSD.
Besides that, DSD64 is comparable to PCM 24/88.2, so if there has to be an auto-conversion not manageable by the user - as is the case in the current MediaMonkey version - I wouldn't use PCM 24/44.1 but PCM 24/88.2. Unfortunately, chosing this in the output settigs currently makes no sense as it just triggers a second conversion following the standard (not manageable) playback conversion from DSD to 24/44.1.
Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
Hmmm, well I guess this needs to be investigated, if there is possibility to BIT stream DSD to output in RAW format. But it will not be that fast, because such change is classified as very high risk of regressions and most likely will make problems with other formats.MMuser78 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 11:35 amMy DAC supports native DSD up to DSD128 (I only have DSD64 files anyway) but unfortunately MM5 doesn't. Re: HiRes Files [#18340]
We could probably use conversion to 88200Hz. Tracked as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18537
Re: HiRes Files [#18340 #18537]
Many thanks, that works for me in the latest beta version and is a big step in the right direction.
