Unreliable recognition of USB devices

Unreliable recognition of USB devices
I use a set of around 10 USB sticks for synchronizing music to them. I use the function "Send to... (Syncronize)"
Over the last years MM did properly re-recognize the USB sticks with their names and specific configurations (e.g. file location, level volume,...).
Perhaps since version 4.12 or 4.13 MM doesn't assign the existing configuration of a stick reliably. Instead of this, MM creates sometimes a new device with default settings. Unfortunately I can't reproduce this behaviour systematically.
This behaviour appears with ordinary USB sticks, but not with our MP3 players.
What could be the reason?

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Which version of MediaMonkey are you currently using and is d_USBMass1.dll or d_WMDM.dll (see under Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync) being used as device plugin?

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Oh sorry, I forgot to specify my MM version: It's 4.14.1813. As device plugin I'm using the d_WMDM.dll.

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Hi everybody,
the above described problem I've posted one yeare ago, has now re-appeared again - in fact in the same way as last year.
In the meantime it was solved (at least with version 4.1.15 and probably also with version 4.1.16)
Currently I'm using MM 4.1.17.1840.
When I plug in a known (and configured) USB stick, MM adds a knew device with default configuration.
It's bothersome...
Best regards

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Hi Toemmel,
If I understand correctly, in cases where you've synced to a USB stick or device using MMW, that when you subsequently plug in the device it sometimes creates a duplicate profile?
If so, there have been further improvements re. USB handling in MMW 4.1.18 (just recently released). Can you let us know if it solves the problem for you?
Thanks.

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Hi Rusty,
yes, you've understood correctly.
MM creates a new (duplicate) profile with default configuration.
A speciality in my handling of USB sticks is that I typically rename the sticks aligning to a defined nomenclatur. So they get in MM another name, compared to the windows drive name of the stick.
Thanks for your information about the new version! I will update to v4.1.18 and observe the behavior of the sticks...

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Hello everyone,
today I solved the above described problem with the forgotten USB stick profiles! It's quite simple:
Every time I'm going to start a new synchronisation I completely clean the stick. I remove the Music and the MediaMonkey directory.
But the file StorageInfo.xml seems to contain the recognition in the tag "storageGuid", isn't it?
I made several tests: If I delete the file, MM creates a new profile. If not, it uses the existing profile...
If this is really the problem, we can close this thread.

Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Hi,
You got it correctly StorageInfo.xml controls MMW profile to be recognized.
If you want clean sync either:
a) delete all except MediaMonkey Folder
or
b) you can also tell MMW in sync profile to Delete all tracks that are not present in Sync list.

The reason for the behaviour is here: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12205
Re: Unreliable recognition of USB devices
Okay, quite good to know...
Where can I trigger this option? I cannot find it.Peke wrote:you can also tell MMW in sync profile to Delete all tracks that are not present in Sync list.
