Help with NAS library address

Post by TroubleClef »

I'm trying to direct MM to recognize my music library on a NAS. In reading through the MM knowledge base I found this:

"On a machine that has MediaMonkey installed, scan a network location that will contain your music by pasting it into the Scan Folders dialog. It is preferable to scan a UNC path rather than a mapped drive. e.g.
\\ip _address\path (almost always works)
\\computer_name\path (often works)
J: (mapped network drive often fails)'

If I copy the path in windows explorer I get this: M:\Shared Music\flac However, I believe the "M" portion of that address is \\wdmycloud

I've tried \\wdmycloud\Shared Music\flac but it doesn't work.

What is the proper address format to use for the library??

Thanks!

I have a Diskstation. You need to point it to where you have the database file located, and have it's name in the path. This is the format I use:

In the [SYSTEM] section of the .ini file I have:
DBName=\\diskstation\music\MMDatabase\MM.DB

I would imagine you would use something like:
DBName=\\wdmycloud\Shared Music\flac\MM.DB

Make sure that the Path works in Explorer before trying to use it in MediaMonkey.

You'll likely find the NAS listed under Network in Explorer (not sure if this gives the UNC Path if you already mapped it). Selecting it and navigating to the folder you want scanned will give you the Path in the Location bar in Explorer. Otherwise you'll need to login to the NAS using a browser and see if it reveals the network name of the NAS, it may not be the default if you changed the device name.

For my NAS (QNAP) I use STATIC IP and \\ip _address\path (always works) and is only reliable way to be certain MMW access right Share.

Networking will be improved in MM5 (still it is same as in MM4.x)

Note that using IP address can cause problems when using dynamic IPs (default for most routers) as the IP may change with each reboot of the router or NAS (unless you're using a static IP). Using the device name avoids that.

Thanks for the responses! This helped me figure out the actual IP address and get it connected.
