Music on iPhone 5 does not display in MM, other

Post by jza80 »

Just installed 4.1.0.1692, MM shows my iPhone5 (ios 7.0.4) as present but no song info displays (music, artists, etc. are all empty). This is despite the fact that my phone memory is maxed out from syncing awhile back with an earlier version (4.1.0.1683) MM and multiple duplicate copies of songs being copied to the phone (see below). I need to get a way to access my music library in MM so that I can delete the hundreds of duplicate songs and finish syncing the missing songs that did not sync during my last attempt.

Another unrelated issue is that somehow MM has created duplicates of many songs seemingly at random (some albums have 4-5 copies of the same song, others have only a single copy). The problem is, it seems that if delete any one of the copies, all copies are gone. And if I remove a copy from the library (and leave it on the computer), the next time I do a music search (for example, if I download a song from iTunes), then all the copies reappear. This is a big problem, it takes forever to remove the duplicates from the library. I am sure this was caused by me doing something wrong at some point but there must be a way to fix it. This issue occurred prior to my iPhone 5 purchase (and the issue above).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I just noticed that when I connect my iPhone to my PC, a songlist displays for a fraction of a second while MM is scanning the phone, then it disappears. But the songlist will not redisplay unless I disconnect and reconnect the phone, then only for a moment again.

Probably a bug from an earlier beta version. Use iExplorer to delete the iTunes control folder, and sync again.

Thanks for the reply, however I am using W7. What file do I need to delete in W7 and where can I find it?

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by W7? Windows 7? iExplorer works fine for that OS.

Sorry, I should have said Windows 7. I was not familiar with iExplorer but I see now that it is a file transfer program. So what I should do is install this program which can then access the file you described and then I delete the file? Sorry if these seem to be basic questions, I have little experience with MM or iTunes. Thanks again.

There's a whole folder called "iPod control". Just delete everything in that folder, and resync with MM.

I was not able to locate a folder or file named "iPod control", I did find a folder named "iPod". I deleted this folder and subfolders after stopping some running processes, however this did not resolve the problem. I also tried the following with no success:

Uninstalled MM (using Revo uninstaller - to clean the registry)
Re-installed MM - no change
Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (since I deleted the iPod folder iTunes did not work properly)
Synced phone using iTunes - this wiped off all music from the phone except the songs I downloaded from the iTunes store so my phone memory issue is resolved but MM still does not show any songs on my iPhone. Presumably if my phone was corrupt this should have corrected the problem.

I'd greatly appreciate any other ideas, I guess if I can't get this resolved I will have to move to a different music management program but I'd like to avoid that. Since I seem to be the only person with this issue there must be a solution.

It's at iPhone\Root\User\Media\iTunes_Control

I don't seem to have a folder named iPhone. I have "iPod" and "iTunes", but neither of these have paths like what you listed. Also no folder named "iTunes_Control".

There is no iPhone folder, sorry, it's just what iExplorer shows as the path. You're looking for User\Media\iTunes_Control.

"User" is in the root of the device.

itunes/iphone iOS storage discrepancy, causing music syncing

itunes/iphone iOS storage discrepancy, causing music syncing issues

Since updating from iOS 7.0.4 to 7.1.1 itunes is not displaying accurate storage information.

major issue in filename structure
for example
artist:MAVADO
title:PAYPA (PAPER)
album:FIRE SUPREME RIDDIM
file name from mp3:MAVADO - PAYPA (PAPER) (RAW).mp3
file name on phone:
/iTunes_Control/Music/F07/_MAV.mp3

if I were to sync another track from my computer onto my phone with a file name beginning in 'MAV'
-There is a possibility that _MAV will land on folder 07
-When and if it does land on folder 07, that mp3 would not sync on the phone.
-The mp3 that was already on the phone is now listed twice on my music app on the phone. 1)listed with correct and original tags 2)listed with wrong tags from the mp3 that I was suppose to sync while keeping its original album art
