2 sets of every song?

Post by fistdog »

Just got Media Monkey, so Im working through this. In my Artist tree, I have Bill Monroe(as an example), click it on, and there are a list of songs. Now these songs are ALSO listed under Bill Monroe, True Life Blues (album name) as well, which is where they should be since it's the album's songs. Why are the same set of songs listed under the Artist folder AND album sub folder. Shouldn't they just be under the album sub-folder?
Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Thx - Sam

Tree basics -- why tracks can appear on multiple times

Post by rusty »

In the tree, you can think of the 'Artist' as containing all tracks by the Artist in question, whereas the 'Album' contains only the subset of song by that particular artist that are on a particular Album.

This can be confusing at first, but actually gives you a lot of power, since it allows you to change the attributes of a Track by simply dragging and dropping it from one 'Artist' to another to change artists, or from one 'Album' to another to change albums.

The above is slight oversimplification of how this works (since it doesn't describe how the Album Artist field functions). A more detailed discussion on the topic appears at:
