Pixel 3 to Windows 10 via USB

1. I plug my phone USB into the computer
2. on the phone, set usb Preferences to File transfer
I do see an MTP device show up in File Explorer. I can open the device, navigate, and even find the loaded music
3. on the PC, I open Media Monkey
4. Go To Tools -> Sync Device, and no device shows up
5. Go to Tool -> Options -> Portable Devices
6. Select/focus the MDM and click Configure - Page shows "This device is not connected"
7. On the phone, I can connect via WIFI, and even click sync and watch things sync...
Why can't I 'connect' from Media Monkey on my computer and sync there?
