MediaMonkey 2.2 Alpha 4 -- Getting There...

Post by rusty »

MediaMonkey 2.2 Alpha 4 (build 721) is ready for your bug busting pleasure. Again, I just want to recognize the work of everyone contributing translations--German is new to this build.

Important Testing Note: As with Alpha 3, this build is chunkier than previous builds. This is due to exception handling code that has been added to help debug problems that occur during alpha/beta testing. If a bug involves a crash/access violation or other similar error, please e-mail me a copy of the c:\MMExcept.log file that is generated by MediaMonkey (note: this file is deleted each time MediaMonkey is restarted, so make sure to send it before restarting). This will help us rapidly resolve some of the bugs that until now, have been a bit trickier to reproduce and resolve.

Before you rush into downloading it, remember that it's an Alpha. It is labeled 'alpha' because it contains a variety of changes many of which have not been thoroughly tested and some of which have barely been tested. The software is being provided for feedback and testing purposes, and is recommended for use only by advanced users who regularly test pre-release software. If you plan on testing it, take precautions to backup your data to protect against data loss during installation or usage.

If you do decide to try it out, we'd love to hear your feedback.

What's new in build 721?
Although the list for this build is kind of short, there are quite a few significant under-the-hood changes which should resolve some of the stability issues in alpha 3.
  • - Added German Translation (alpha) thanks to Zyb and Highelf
    - Replaced in_dsmp3 and optional MAD plugin with mpg123-based plugin by Otochan & Shibatch (it's fast & great quality--let us know if you find any MP3 samples that it fails on)
    - Updated to LAME 3.95.1, OGG Vorbis 1.0.1 POST
    - Updated to Peter Pawlowski's plugins: Vorbis decoder 1.33a, WAV decoder 2.07, DirectSound Output 2.2.7
    - Updated Italian translation by Argo
    - Fixed crash on playback
    - Fixed track is removed from library when user attempts to delete file from HD, but refuses confirmation
    - Fixed some WMA files appear unsynchronized even when they are
    - Fixed default OGG settings so that volume levels aren't too low when Level Playback Volume is enabled
    - Fixed focus problems when Now Playing is undocked
    - Fixed typing text in web nodes
    - Fixed typing over selected text causes misplaced cursor
    - Fixed installation on top of MM 2.1 fails to correct character conversion tables

Installation
Double-click the downloaded file and follow the installation instructions. You can install:
a) To your MediaMonkey directory, replacing the current version of MediaMonkey. If you take this approach make certain to back up your database beforehand.
b) To a new directory (e.g. /Program Files/MediaMonkey_alpha), preserving your existing MediaMonkey installation so that you can use one version or the other.

Other Stuff
MediaMonkey 2.2 is localizable. If you want to localize it to your language, see the localization forum: http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8
