Separate play counts

Post by MPG »

Hi,
I am going on a 3 month trip this summer and I have a Playlist that I'll be using. The playlist is synced to my phone. While traveling I'd like to see what songs I listened the most and which ones were never played. I've been using the Playlist for awhile so I don't really want to lose the current play count. The Playlist is over 10K songs so it's not like I can take a snapshot. Any suggestions?
TIA

Hi,
No it is not possible :(

I was trying to make backup of MM5.DB in second portable MM and create Auto Playlists to compare last played dates of tracks to filter, but unfortunately there is no way you can tell if one track was 9 times during travel and others plated only 3 times.

It could be a good stat for tracking liked tracks eg. something these tracks are played after last sync and show how much each one is played after last sync.

Did I catch it correctly or?
Best regards,

You could do this externally via the file list report.

Before your trip:
  • Select all files in your big playlist.
  • Select File > Reports > File List
  • Ensure that the list of fields to export includes "Played #", and
  • export that to a CSV file (a text format compatible with Excel)
This will give you a file recording your starting playcounts.

During your trip:
  • Enjoy your music and watch your playcounts going up.
After your trip:
  • Sync your portable device back to MMW and ensure that the metadata is returned to your library (that will get the playcounts back off your mobile device)
  • Selct all files in your big playlist.
  • Export the file list to CSV format again.
  • Open both before and after CSV files in Excel.
A simple subtraction formula in Excel will give you the change in playcount for each file. You will probalby need some extra coding to make sure that you're matching the same song names for the subtractions, but simple lookups will do that for you.

Cheers
