Can't able to drag and drop audio files into Playing panel [#20794]

In MM5 (Now 2024), I can't able to drag and drop .mp3s or any audio files into Playing panel. What am I missing?

I am able to do this in MM4.

From where are you dragging the files? Did you do any sorting or are you in Shuffle mode when this happens?

I am dragging the files from my windows explorer to the Playing panel. But I can't.

Nope. I am not in Shuffle mode. I do not have any any sorting.

I just tested and I can normally add tracks to Now playing. Are you sure that MM is not started as Administrator or under different account?

Also which version of Windows and are the files dragged from a local hard drive or another storage location?

The thing is, I can't "Simply" drag and drop. I have to be very specific.

I would have to be bring the items very close to the playing list tracks.

In the MM4, I could do this very easily.

Would it be possible to fix this behaviour?

I think the point is, it wants you to place the track in a specific order for playback.

Thus you cannot drop the track in the open area of the list. It wants to know if you want it to be placed directly before or after a specific track, in your case the only existing track.

Try it again with several existing tracks in your list, and you should be able to place it in between any of the existing tracks.

I agree, in your case, it would make sense to be able to drop it anyplace below the existing track.

Yes. It should not matter. And it should accommodate both behaviour.

1. Drop the item any where. MM should automatically place the track below the existing track.
2. If the users wants to be specific, they can drop the item in a specific order for playback.

MM4 does this perfectly.

I think this is an oversight from the developers.

Dragged file should be able to be released anyplace below the bottom track in the playing window.

Can you retry D&D but not to main panel, but to Now Playing (Right Panel)

PLeas enote that there is a small delay before File explorer send correct info to MM on D&D. Strange is that when you D&D to MM4 File explorer only parse path+filename and for MM5 it parses it as an Object (containing file description, format/type, properties, ...) eg. bunch of stuff MM do not need and thus there should be delay before you release Left click.

Yes, I am able to D&D Now Playing (Right Panel).

The main issue with my setup and workflow, I do not use Now Playing (Right Panel). To me it is redundant or duplication.

I would like to for the developers to tweak and improve the Drag and Drop behaviour of Playing panel.

I see your point. D&D works on Playing when there is a full list, but you can't D&D on Empty space in Playing List.

For now as a workaround just make sure you D&D on track list and not on empty space.
