File Names and Titles with track # is repeated

Post by TheEmpathicEar »

In the case of the Titles they have the track # at the beginning of each Title. The file names have repeat track #'s - for example: 01-01 One.mp3, 02-02 Two.mp3, etc. I hope this is not as confusing to others here? Ordinarily I would use Tag&Rename which would easily fix one or the other. Can MM5 fix both? Remove duplicate in file name and track # from Title?

Auto-Organize Files can help with this.

I imported the tracks already. Is this going to make it more complicated? Different approach?

I played around with it. No change. EXCEPT instead of album being under the Artist name it is now under "Unknown"?

You need to adjust the Masks and check the results before applying them.

If you have the problem with both the Filename and Title you may first want to use Auto-Tag from Filename to fix the Title, then use Auto-Organize Files to fix the Filename.

I am still having trouble getting the "01" [for example] removed from the Title [tag]? Once I get the Titles with the numeric prefix removed the rest will be easy.

With 01-01 One.mp3

<Ignore> <Title> should work, alternatively <Ignore>-<Ignore> <Title>

I ended up removing the numeric prefix by hand for each Title [tag]. And, then the file names just followed suit according to the default mask that I use . Thx for all your help. I could not figure out how to remove the numeric prefix from each Title as a group. Maybe I overlooked something in the dialog for either Auto-Tag from Filename or Organizing Files and Folders?

Hi,
Yes, most miss settings for Tag mask. When you click on mask press F1 and you should get more help.

Well, it should be possible to remove numeric track numbers that are consistently 2 chars and space. i.e. 01 Track 1 where the Title was "01 Track 1" and should be "Track 1" and so on for each track. Once the Titles are done, it's easy to let the mask I use take over and do the file names.

Hi,
If mask is "<Title>" then whole filename will be added into title as instructed eg. "01 Track 1", but if Mask is "<Track #:2> <Title>" then it will fill TRACK # with 01 and title with "Track 1". there is no way that MM Auto introduce sub masks to "<Title>" eg. "<Track #:2> <Title>" when you set it to read it as "<Title>". I tested and on my library it makes sooooo much mess that MM became unusable.

I am not sure exactly what you mean? This is the mask that use:
"D:\iPod\My Music\<Album Artist>\[<Year>] <Album>\<Track #:2> - <Title>" It's been working fine so far. FYI. The <Year> is there to give me the ability to sort albums by release year. At the moment, this is just in Windows Explorer, but also in Android. I can use a file manager there to sort by release year because the <year> displays there too.
