Umzug auf neuen Datenträger (neue ext Festplatte)

Post by sonos »

Hi Sonos,

Consider using:

1). Organise with Copy Option and new destination e.g. \\Network Drive\Classical Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Title>

2). Right Click / Send To / Folder Copy

My opinion is 1 is better since you can have a different destination for Audiobooks / Classical / Podcasts etc AND maintain (or improve on the Folder structure.

Hi Ian,

thank you very much for your prompt and your suggestions!
In the meantime I have found a way to accomplish this task.
I'm following the procedure described by Timo Beil:

The instructions for changing a drive assume that the complete file structure is the same on both drives.
Previously D:/iTunes/Music/etc... becomes E:/iTunes/Music/etc...
When I migrate my Mediafiles to an other location (folder or drive), I make a simple copy with the explorer.
Then I disconnect my old drive.
In MM5 I select Entire Library > All tracks and let MM search the new location (Files > Locate moved/missing files...)
This approach has the advantage that all stored data (e.g. added etc.) is included in the DB.
Especially the process Locate moved/missing files... is pretty fast!!
