Possible to sync only meta-data with no file creation?

Post by Theoman »

Hey there!

I have a device where I manually add/remove content to it. Not everything from my library goes on the device.

With that being said, I'm trying to adjust the metadata of the library, specifically ratings, and try to have that metadata sync with the device, without having new files/folders transferred over. The folder structure on the library and the device is the same.

So is it possible to "sync" by just updating existing content on the device based on library changes without the sync adding any new content to the device? Every attempt I've tried ends up creating new folders/files on the device, and that's with only Ratings chosen under Sync List (Library --> Device).

As a completely made up example:

Library:
4* Beethoven\1993 - Beethoven - Ludwig's Tunes\01. Beethoven - Lud's First Jam (1993).mp3
3* Beethoven\1993 - Beethoven - Ludwig's Tunes\02. Beethoven - Lud's Second Jam (1993).mp3
4* Beethoven\1993 - Beethoven - Ludwig's Tunes\03. Beethoven - Lud's Third Jam (1993).mp3
4* Beethoven\1993 - Beethoven - Ludwig's Tunes\04. Beethoven - Lud's Fourth Jam (1993).mp3
5* Beethoven\1999 - Beethoven - Big Beets\01. Beethoven - Beet Jelly (1999).mp3
5* Beethoven\1999 - Beethoven - Big Beets\02. Beethoven - Beet Sauce (1999).mp3
4* Beethoven\1999 - Beethoven - Big Beets\03. Beethoven - Beet Smoothie (1999).mp3
5* Beethoven\1999 - Beethoven - Big Beets\04. Beethoven - Beets That Make Ya Bounce (1999).mp3
5* Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\01. Beethoven - Cats (2002).flac
3* Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\02. Beethoven - Dogs (2002).flac
2* Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\03. Beethoven - My Creative Beet Juices Have Run Low (2002).flac
1* Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\04. Beethoven - I Don't Know (2002).flac

Device:
Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\01. Beethoven - Cats (2002).flac
Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\02. Beethoven - Dogs (2002).flac
Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\03. Beethoven - My Creative Beet Juices Have Run Low (2002).flac
Beethoven\2002 - Beethoven - Classic Remixes (FLAC)\04. Beethoven - I Don't Know (2002).flac

I'm looking to only sync those star ratings for "Classic Remixes" to the device WITHOUT moving any of the other files over to the device (or making any unintentional duplicates). Is this possible?

On a second possibly related note, for those FLAC files where (FLAC) is in the folder structure, would I need to notify MM of that via a conditional in the Sync Profile settings? Does this look like it would work?

Code: Select all

\Music\<Artist>\<Year> - <Artist> - <Album> $if(<Extension>=flac,'($Upper(flac)')\<Track #:2>. <Artist> - <Title> (<Year>)

How exactly do you manually Sync, what device are you syncing to and what Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using?

By dragging folders from my music folder on my PC to the music folder on the SD Card, then the SD Card goes in the device (A&K SR25 MKII).

You'll need to use Sync instead if you just want metadata updated for files already Synced to the device.
