Vanishing filters

Hi - I tried to post this before but it seems not to have worked.
I have recently started using filters but I've noticed that sometimes they just 'vanish' mid-session, typically when I'm in Albums grid view and I switch to a non-filtered view (e.g. a playlist) and then back to Albums - the filters are gone and I have to set them up again.
I click the filter funnel and then 'Match all of the following criteria', then +, then e.g. Artist contains Beatles and press Enter, do I need to do something else in order to make the filter permanent?
Using MM Gold v5.0.4.2690.

you need to save current filter as Auto-playlist
