Quick way to alphabetize genres

Post by kalowski »

As is often the way when an mp3 collection has organically grown over the years, fields where I didn't have a specific rule now need one. For me, it is the genre field.

Examples:
I have some albums where the genre says Country; alt.Country, other where is says alt.Country; Country, and the odd one where it might say something like Country; Americana; alt.Country.
Can anyone think of the best way to get the genres and sub-genres in alphabetical order? I can use either MM5 or MM4 to do this, so a Magic Node that lists all genres would work. I can't figure this out.

Yes in Magic Nodes select Multi-item fields then Multi-item Genre, select a specific node in the tree and press F2 to edit.

For example, select Punk; New Wave and change to New Wave; Punk.

You should a message below "xx files to be tagged". I would let this complete before making the next edit!

At the end of an "editing session" I prefer to rescan the whole library / backup / maintain.

The convention I follow is to have the multi-Genre sorted alphabetically.

Hope this helps.
