Joining/Combining Two Songs Into One...

Post by formadmirer »

There are tracks on some CDs that, even though they are separate tracks, are commonly played together as one song.

Examples off the top of my head are Queen - We will rock you/We are the champions, and Journey - Feeling that way/Anytime. There are many more by Boston, Van Halen, many others.

It would be REALLY GREAT :P to be able to select two tracks from the playlist, right click, and choose something like 'Always play together' or perhaps even to join them together into a single track for ripping or converting to MP3, so that they will always be played together or played as a single track.

Currently, I am having to manually record these tracks as a single track into a .wav (using other software), then open the recording in MediaMonkey and then convert the file to mp3 and it's a pain!

A setting 'Always play together' has already been requested.

You can easily use "mp3 join" programs (search internet) to join your mp3's without any quality loss (files are and remain mp3, they don't get decoded and reencoded).
A popular allround program is mp3DirectCut, however there are many more.
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).

yep thats the way i have been doing it also. it is time consuming but on the bright side i get to control the volume and blank space of the file and i can make the concerts back in to one track insted of 20 tracks.

but you can try buffer tricks in monkey and maybe get them to work for you and there is a gapless play feature in mm3 so that will help some what? that is the only thing i can see a child playlist working for.
you can put them in one playlist then have that playlist play as one file in the main playlist..

Thank you both for your replies.
Steegy, thanks for the info, this sounds like just what I need. BTW I did look through the wishlist before I posted but failed to see anything like it on the list. Guess I just missed it.
Anyway this sounds like it will do the trick and with a lot less work. Downloading it now. Thanks again.

I'm glad you're helped.

Just as an extra note: as of today, there is no public up-to-date wishlist. Hopefully there will be soon, but for now the best thing you can do is search the forum and ask us what you want.
So even if you've read the complete "unofficial wishlist" post, you will miss a lot of the more recent wishes simply because they're not in there.

Until I'm brave enough to try mm3 (and its "gapless play" feature), can you describe these "buffer tricks" for v2 in more depth?

I have MANY ripped discs where the gap is VERY noticeable (but not on the original CD). At the moment, I don't need to join specific tracks (since I'm playing them in original sequence), but I'd like shorten that gap to make it less irritating.

If this is described elsewhere on the site/forum, feel free to post the URL.

Thanks!

UPDATE: Never mind, I just found the info in another post (repeated here in case someone else missed it):
