hosting webmonkey thing

Post by wallstreetwalker »

hey,

i installed this software
http://www.sharing-file.com/ (it's not free thoo :( )
now i can host all my music from my pc only to myself and other persons which i give a password.

i can easily host webpages for 'guests' too. it's really cool.
you don't need to know anything about hosting, i 've set it up in 10 minutes!!

i was wondering how i could install webmonkey, do i need any asp things?,
i can't seem to find any install instructions for webmonkey ???

how do other people do this sort of thing?

watch it there fellow troup member.

most isp's don't like it when you do that hosting stuff with out them knowing. they might find out and shut it down. they like to charge more for hosting sites like that. and don't want to let you use a normal user's dialup to do it. :(

plus most normal user isp's only have 4 connections to a server more then that and the site gets slow.

i just want to use it to put some large files on it, which people can download from the site.
only people i know.
now i use msn for this, but i thought it might be easier this way.

besides i only put the 'server' online when i know someone wants to dl something,
there won't be more than 4 users simultaneously dl'ing

expect if i put a website on it and make it accesible for guests, but this would only be a small site (no media) and i already host it on a 'real' server too.

as for the webmonkey, isn't it like streaming an internet radio,
will this affect the ISP ??

anyway i'm just testing this a bit, don't want to harm anyone or something

i can't seem to find the dns.asp file (there is dsn and dsn2) so i can't really get it working, also i'm not sure if the asp will work.

thanks for any advice.

the fastest and simplest servers apps i seen were made by mark over at analogx.

http://www.analogx.com

check them out and see if they are still work able for your system or if they can trigger your mind in to answering your own questions.? 8)

It seems that file share software can't host ASP webpages so it wouldn't be able to run WebMonkey (I'm not sure you host any personal pages in the first place).

WebMonkey can run on IIS which is included for free with Windows. Not all versions of Windows can run IIS (WinXP Home and WinME don't I believe). The limitation is the ammount of connection it supports. If you want more you will need to use a server version of Windows.

There is something called babywebserver which someone used, I believe that it was free, but it might have issues with WebMonkey.
