Inconsistent syncing of playcounts and ratings [#16511]

Post by bdb484 »

I went several months without syncing. In the meantime, I played and rated every song on a playlist of ~2,000 tracks. When I finally came back and synced again, MMW showed the plays and ratings for something like a third of the tracks, but no plays or ratings for the majority of them.

When I look in MMA, I can see that the tracks are rated, and I can see that the songs have been played. But there's no change in MMW.

In the past, syncing again, rebooting MMA, or rebooting MMW have solved the problem, and subsequent syncs would eventually result in all the information making showing up in MMW.
This time, though, I've tried all those, but I can't get any of that data to show up.

Since attempting all this, I have re-rated some of those songs, and the new ratings will sync back to MMW. I have also replayed some of those songs; the new plays will sync back to MMW, but the old ones will not.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Both MMW and MMA sync logs needs to be created in same time so that we can compare what MMA and MMW See.

Also have you tried to use WiFi Sync as it has been proven to be more reliable than USB sync in terms of sync back.

FYI I edited your posts so that do not clutter threads. Thank you.

Maybe the files in MMW got another rating meanwhile and thus the metadata changes in MMA are now older and thus not propagated to MMW?

Could you please generate debug log (item 4b here: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... ?f=6&t=341 ) while syncing

Thanks to both of you. I've sent you a link to the debug log for MMW. Is there a way to generate a separate log for MMA?

Peke: I've been using wi-fi sync exclusively.

Ludek: It shouldn't be a case of conflicting ratings. There may have been a few exceptions, but the vast majority of the tracks that I had rated in MMA were never rated in MMW.

Hi,
I analyzed the MMW log and the only modifications sent by MMA during Wi-Fi sync are the played values:

Code: Select all

<Modifications><Media id="141821"><Modification field="last_time_played" timeStamp="2020-04-05 23:58:31"><Old>2019-12-07 19:54:50</Old><New>2020-04-05 23:58:33</New></Modification><Modification field="playcount" timeStamp="2020-04-05 23:58:31"><Old>49</Old><New>50</New></Modification></Media><Media id="165621"><Modification field="last_time_played" timeStamp="2020-04-06 00:07:24"><Old>2020-01-27 12:47:32</Old><New>2020-04-06 00:07:26</New></Modification><Modification field="playcount" timeStamp="2020-04-06 00:07:24"><Old>9</Old><New>10</New></Modification></Media><Media id="165600"><Modification field="last_time_played" timeStamp="2020-04-06 00:11:45"><Old>2019-07-30 22:34:15</Old><New>2020-04-06 00:11:47</New></Modification><Modification field="playcount" timeStamp="2020-04-06 00:11:45"><Old>1</Old><New>2</New></Modification></Media></Modifications>

Could you please connect the phone to your PC via USB and go to phone memory > /MediaMonkey/files/mmstore.db
i.e. send me the mmstore.db file, it is database from MMA -- where I can see all the modifications that you have made in history -- and whether they were synced.

Hi,
in your mmstore.db I see that all the changes has been already synced -- so they won't sync again.

Nevertheless I hacked your mmstore.db and set all the changes as unsynced again,
this will allow you to force MMA/MMW to sync them again -- which will either success or I can see in the log what is wrong.

Please do this test:
1) uninstall MMA
2) copy updated mmstore.db (that I sent you via PM) to phone memory /MediaMonkey/files/mmstore.db
i.e. replace the mmstore.db that you sent me
3) install MMA again -- this way MMA will take the updated mmstore.db from your phone memory and will use it as its internal DB
4) Run DbgView
5) Run MMW
6) Sync
=> after the sync verify whether the changes were propagated from MMA to MMW and save the output from DbgView to log file and PM me link to the log

I think I followed the instructions properly, but it looks like it didn't work. I didn't notice any new plays or ratings.

I just sent the logs in a DM.

Hi,
watching your log I see the playcounts and rating being synced an updated.
e.g. track C:\Dropbox (BDB)\MediaMonkey Library\Music\Big Thief\2019 - Two Hands\01-02 Forgotten Eyes.mp3
and many others located under C:\Dropbox (BDB)\MediaMonkey Library\Music\

Most of the tracks got rating 2.5 stars.

Couldn't it be that you have the tracks twice in your library and you rated the other copies ?
Which track should give rating according to you and did not give it ?

There are probably a thousand files that haven't synced, but take a look at:
  • Music\Maggie Rogers\2019 - Heard It in a Past Life\01-04 Alaska.mp3
  • Music\Pedro the Lion\2019 - Phoenix\01-03 Clean Up.mp3
  • Music\Mekons\2019 - Deserted\01-01 Lawrence of California.mp3
All of them are rated in MMA, but the ratings haven't come over to MMW.

I also played all of them in MMA. But I'm noticing now that although MMA shows each of them as having a playcount of 1, it also says they were last played "never."

Hi,
Never means they never finished. If you got thru one track to next and it still shows Never, can you please use ⋮ -> About MediaMonkey -> Send logs -> Save log ID for reply here -> Press OK -> Reply here with saved log.

Hi,
Ok Added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16511 We will see what log will tell us.

Further testing would be needed to check sync. Thank you for patience.

Strange update: While editing tags on some of the tracks that hadn't synced properly, MMW started me some kind of error, and I noticed that as I advanced from one track to the next, the missing plays started showing up. I refreshed another window that had all the problem files, and suddenly all their playcounts were visible.

Are you saying that you were editing the tracks in MMW and they suddenly shown the correct values in MMW ?
Or you needed to edit them in MMA and sync again?
What was the kind of error ? By advancing from one track to the next you mean playing them once by once in MMW?

EDIT: BTW: Wasn't you previously just under 'My Computer' node in MMW ? Under this node the tracks are showing only info from the file tags (and not your true library data and playcounts). i.e. if you browse the tracks under the 'Music' collection or search them in library via search bar -- does they show correct playcounts ?
