I've been using WiFi to sync for years with only occasional programs that I've always managed to overcome. Syncing via USB never works properly (MMW will show the files being copied, and the Playlist shows up on my device in explorer but not in MMA).
Trying to sync via WiFi now having not made any changes to software or hardware since last time but after a lengthy period of MMA searching I get "Sync Incomplete - Connection Failed"
Any ideas?

Which version of MMA and MMW are you using? Is the wifi sync unable to sync at all or does it starting syncing and eventually fail with that error?
Can you use UPnP in MMA to play files from the MMW server. If so have you tried to move your phone closer to your wifi point to make sure dropped wifi signals isn't interfering with the sync.

Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
MMW is 4.1.14.1813
MMA is 1.2.0.0618
My phone is right next to my WiFi point. I can't sync at all. If I select Sync Now on MMA it just fails to connect. Same as if I select my SD card in Sync Settings here

Then try UPnP on the home screen in MMA. Does it fail to see/connect to the MMW server?
You may find that security software on your PC is blocking MMW. First maybe try a PC restart, if that fails maybe try to temporarily disable security (firewall) software.

Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
Yep, fails to connect.
MMW is definitely on m Firewall's list of allowed programes but I disabled it to test. Still not working - it connects but just sticks on "Sync is waiting for other background operations to complete"

Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
OK. I tried again and for some reason this time it synced, but none of the playlists selected for synchronisation synced properly.
For example, I have 1 playlist that has 1104 tracks on MMW but after sync it only has 532 in MMA.

Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
If you have wifi sync issues send a debug log from About in MMA right after sync completes and then open a support ticket with the logID. A developer can then analyze what went wrong.

Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
Seems to work now. Only with the Firewall turned off and only after 3 or 4 unsuccessful attempts. Thanks for your help.
Re: WiFi Sync - Samsung Galaxy
Then there may be a setting in the Firewall blocking MMW.
You may also want to try rebooting the PC, your device and your wifi router. That sometimes creates more stable connections.
