What about using audiograbber? Play the protected songs on the PC and record it into an mp3 at the same time. Apparently this method causes loss but to my ear I haven't been able to detect any.
I'm pretty sure audiograbber sets tags and while it does use freedb you may not be able to use autolookup in this case. Though it's fairly easy to pre-enter track titles and do them in batch.
