How to get MM to remember my location settings

Post by peppergomez »

I am trying to get MM to remember my media library folder settings, to no avail. Maybe I'm going about it wrong.

In File>Add rescan files I uncheck everything but the one folder I want to use, then click OK. When I reopen the Add/Rescan folders window, I notice that MM has rechecked ALL the folders on that hard drive. This is a PITA because there are over 400,000 files now in MM, when there should only be say 100,000 from the one folder.

In the left hand tree under Entire Library>Location, I see two hard drives listed. When I right-click one of them and choose Remove, MM removes it, but when I reopen MM, it adds it back. So obviously there's a setting where I need to permnanently remove that drive, but I don't know where that is.

Where in the UI do I instruct MM to only use the intended folder?

I also notice that in the Monitored Folders subwindow, that two folders appear, and I want to remove one of them but don't see any option to do so.

Thanks.

Also, the latest version of MM gold is freezing up constantly, and is very very sluggish. Wonder if that has anything to do with it maybe choking on scanning 400,000+ files over these two hard drives.

It may be helpful to post a screen shot.

If any folders have an icon that is not a little folder next to them, you have file monitoring or startup scan enabled on them. For those click the folder name and then uncheck one or both of the options on the right-hand side.

good idea re: screenshots

Here you go

The problem is that I keep unchecking My Passport J: and all the folders others than Current Musiques in L: but MM keeps rechecking them. Very irritating. And even after I uncheck My Passport J: drive, it still remains in the file tree

If you select Add/Rescan Files in the first screenshot (context menu on drive J) it will select it in Add/Rescan Files. It is designed to select the Location you right click on.

Deselecting anything in Add/Rescan Files won't remove the location from the Library. You'll need to remove it from the Library manually (right click on drive or folder and remove).

Right, but every time I right-click on My Passport: J under the Entire Library>Location tree and choose Remove and Yes for the Confirm menu, MM adds it right back. Plus MM becomes unresponsive for about a minute.

In the Add/Rescan Files dialog on the right side under Folder Monitoring it does seem selected to be auto-scanned. Remove it (select it and disable options above).

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean. I do know how to remove it but don't see any options to stop it (it being the Musiques folder in the J drive) from being readded.

I got so annoyed with this issue that I un/reinstalled MM in the hopes I could start again and only select that single L drive folder to the library. No luck, as the reinstall of MM has kept the settings of my prior install, and lists J and keeps readding it when I remove it.

Click on it and then make sure both continuous and startup options above it are unchecked.

They have been unchecked for the duration of this problem. I don't know what is causing MM, even after a full un&reinstall, to keep adding J and to prevent me from removing it.

MMM becomes completely unresponsive once I begin trying to complete the steps I have described (remove, Add/Rescan). I don't want to clear the database because that will cause me to lose my playlists.

The performance of the latest MM build is atrocious. Literally 30-60 sec delays between clicking a menu command and MM doing the action.

Is there a link to download earlier builds?

Uninstall doesn't remove many settings (http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ticleid=54).

So the provided screenshot wasn't accurate?

Works fine here, maybe try File > Maintain Library with complete optimization checked.

Maybe not the entire duration, or when that screenshot was taken but for a lot of it, yeah, both unchecked.

Thanks for the tips re: a complete uninstall, just did that, then will reinstall and try File > Maintain Library w/ complete optimization
