Script is updated
Ver 1.2.1 (2008-02-18)
- Added SQL which removes redundant data in the ListsSongs table if it exists. This makes the script to work properly.

Enjoy!

I just found your script after having spent many hours searching for this capability. I didn't think to search for 'dropdown list' until just now. I've running MM 3.1.1 and your script still works correctly with it. It has been really annoying for the genres drop down list to have all those typos in it. That's now fixed, thank you very much!

Off this topic, your post makes me think you use MS Access to directly access the MM DB. How do you do that? I tried a long time ago and didn't get anywhere.

Thanks,

Wayne

The original script dates back to 2.x if I'm not mistaken. It wasn't until 3.x that the database was switched to SQLite, so the 2.x databases worked with Access. Thus, that note is likely just still lingering from those days.

I cant get this plugin to work. When i install it (MM 3.2.2) nothing appears in my scripts. I then tried to manually add it to scripts.ini but then when i try to make it work it gives an error:

Error #13 - Microsot VBScript runtime error
Type mismatch: 'RemoveUnused'

Does anyone knows how to solve this problem or is there a another, new script cleaning up the genre dropdown list?
Thx!

Bex,
I just went to download your script and the link was valid, but it said the file was no longer available for download.

Hi Bex,

Happy New Year.

Thanks for the script. Tried installing it after downloading it from the link in the previous posting. I got an installation error message. I'm using Windows 7 64 but running MM in 32 mode (as I understand it).

What advice would you offer?

Peace,

Thanks a bunch. I hate having all that extra data in my DB. Big enough file already.

Tried using this script, "Goto File->Remove Unused... To run the script"
Got the message "No Unused Genres Found"
I no this is not the case, Can this be used to edit the Genre list or only remove a genre if it is unused?

Should I look for a different script?

MM can now remove unused genres natively with: File->Maintain Library->Optimize Database

This script only removes unused Genres and classifications. What function were looking for?

I don't see native support for Unused Genre's, only Albums and Artists. Unless it's a "hidden" task.
