copy/paste library data in text form

Post by jonmiz »

I looked around and couldn't find any info on this subject; if its already out there I apologize. I'm new to the forum. The ONE thing that's been bugging me since moving away from iTunes is that when you select songs(either from the library or a playlist), hit copy, then paste into a text based document, Media Monkey pastes just the location of the file. When you do this in iTunes, ALL the information based on the column view enabled. So for instance if I have my library set to show these columns:

Title
Artist
Album
Date

When you copy a song then paste into a text based document, each song would show:

Title (TAB) Artist (TAB) Album (TAB) Date

This actually works really elegantly with Excel because you can paste right into the program and the tabs break each field into separate cells. I know you can do something similar with reports, but the problem is that you have to export each list to a separate file, one list at a time, and then the thing is limited to just a few fields. Its slow and clunky, and limits your options when you want to include unconventional tagging fields into your report. Is this a reasonable request?

I considered this script, but it still basically requires you to create a separate excel file. What I was suggesting was a way to get this information into an email via the clipboard. I'll play around with it and see if I can make it do what I want. Thanks for your reply.
