VIRTUAL CD

Post by Apopsis »

I like the functionality of Virtual CD.
I was looking for something like this. But it needs some improvements.
I'd like to see an ''interactive'' relation between Virtual CD and the
original files.
Not only manage and copy files from the original location
to Virtual CD but the option to manualy create Virtual CD sub-folders
(maybe with right click on the Virtual CD node), and drag and drop files
to these folders, ;;(or right click -->send to---> Virtual CD sub-folders)
These folders must have an update function (like file monitor):
If you move/delete files between these folders using windows explorer- or if any file ALREADY EXIST IN THE DATABASE has copied and organized to these folders, again using windows explorer, MediaMonkey must have a search function to automaticaly import these files to Virtual CD and update.
I hope you will understand what i mean. (sorry for my bad english)
A file monitor option to Virtual CD folders (using a few words)

Else MediaMonkey is great.

Thank you.

Virtual CD--what do you like about it/how do you use it?

I agree with most of what you've written re. the virtual CD. We're planning on making some significant changes to it for the next Major release so that it gains some of this functionality.

One question though: how and why are you using the Virtual CD? i.e. are you using it primarily to Track the relationship between your ripped files and your physical Audio CDs? or are you using it more for selectively copying tracks from MP3 CDs into your collection? or both?

Well, I'll give an example of my case.

My Friend brought me few MP3 CDs, I've added them into the library and checked for duplicate files so I can copy files that I do not have onto my HDD so it can be written as new MP3 Compilation CD.

For now I'm doing that like this.
In explorer I create Folder "MP3 Recording"
Select all files that i Wanna in my collection to that folder from MM, Edit tags and than record a MP3 CD.

The virtual CD for me is only used primarily to Track the relationship between Tracks on my CD-Roms or audio CDs, not for ripped tracks. Prior to recording a Audio CD.

I suggest that will be great if there is separate Tree node for cached Files, ripped/copied files that do not exists in LIB(Virtual CD) so MP3 compilation it can be recorded from it.

Have someone get what i mean?

Hi Rusty, and thanks.
I' m a DJ.
Having a huge MM library from mp3 cd's, i need a smaller part of
this library - just my collections of songs, lets say: my favorites,
uploaded to my hard drive and re-orghanized to folders.
(i use a usb external HD for this, or my laptop)

As you can see, (if you collect mp3+other audio files in cd-roms)
it is not practical to play songs directly from the cd's as they are
-most of the times- not very well organized, not in a similar way-
and it is a better idea to keep them only as back-up.
Even if i copy all the mp3 disks to a large Hard disk, i need to
re-organize the files on the HD to folders again, in a more user friendly way.
Another case is when i need to prepare collections for a special event.

Until now, i had to deal with 2 databases using another program : Trashsoft Mp3 explorer. This progran has a special ''update path'' function.
I always made changes (for song properties) in the ''reference''/''Master'' database. Then, after copying the songs, i had to copy and rename the ''reference'' database to ''on-air'' or ''Hard disk'' database.
(just to have always the latest version)
Using the new ''on-air'' database, i had to use this ''update path'' function,
telling the program where in the HD to search for the uploaded files,
and update the path for each file found.
If i had to make even a single change, i had to go to the ''reference''
database again, copy and update again.
As you see, life was not so easy..
Thats why i ask for interactive relation, between Virtual CD and the whole
database.

Thank you again.
Please ask me if there is something, which needs more explanation.

George.
