This sounds good

It,s good when you keep the way of skinning simpel. :D
For future i'm plan to make WYSIWYG editor for player skins.
oh no, another wysiwyg program. please please PLEASE do not make it like the one that was made for winamp.

those people used the same images on thousands of skins just changed the color or one line on one button and posted them as new skins. i don't want that to happen here mediamonkey is too great a program to have that type of copy cat skinning going on and it will be a dark spot on monkey's back. :(

it is more fun to have multiple styles of skins :)

instead of many skins looking the same just different colors. :x

Don't worry rovingcowboy. This WYSIWYG will be a part of the ThemeEditor. Player's MSKN you will need to define in same way as is now and editor will only help you with controls position and settings (and will save INI file for the player). So only change will be to make a player design easier for user. I'm sure we're both agree that defining INI file is the hardest thing on player designing (except work in graphic studio) and this editor should help with that. Also i think that there will not be a problem to make a 'read-only' protection if necessary.

yes setting the postions for the buttons and other items in the ini file does take the longest time in making a skin.
but in monkey that is not too bad when you figure out how to make a skin. because you can get pretty good at guessing the right pixel on the screen after a few skins.

this new theme engine it sounds like you have to make will it change things for the presently made skins.

i know and am sure you remember all the troubles the skins had when updates in the mm 3.0.0 version kept changing things in them. i really don't want to have to redo all the skins again, but would if i really really really had too. :(

rovingcowboy, in MM 3.0.0 this engine was new and in progress so many things were changed during developement. Now the skinning engine is almost finished for basic functionality and only new features is adding into it. So i don't think old MM3 skins will stop working even with new editor or without.
