does this program support upnp? and if it does how can I set it up.

MediaMonkey is a music manager, it does not let you download music, therefore I can see no reason why you would need UPnP.

The reason someone would want UPnP with MM is to stream music from their database to there stereo via an XBox 360, a Sounbridge, etc... I'd love that feature for my MP101.

As it is I have to use two different programs to do essentially the same thing, maintain a database of my mp3 files so that I can "easily" access them. I say "easily" because the program from my upnp device is horrible at it.

Get Twonky and stream effectively. My MM-Twonky setup works very well with my NAS.

that was the reason for the question. I would like to use mm to stream to my playstation 3.

I used to ask for this feature as well (I stream everything!) but as time has passed I've come to believe that this would be a wrong MM turn! MM is so good because of it's FOCUS. "Just" a fantastic music manager and nothing else. WMP has integrated a UPnP feature - and it breaks down all the time. So - get some good streaming software on the side. Twonky (NAS and PC) and TVersity (free, only PC) focuses on this part.

There is a Winamp UPnP plugin... don't know how it works with the Monkey though.

There are so many easier ways for people to hack a system, that I doubt this is any more of a threat than any other connection to the internet. I think you'd also hear about it more often with the current influx in items such as X-Boxes, Wii's, Playstations that can all work with UPnP.

The problem is that I find that both Twonky and TVersity are crappy programs in terms of their organization and databases. And... when you are streaming everything you really need a fantastic music manager to keep everything organized. This is the primary reason I use MM for playing music on my computer rather than Winamp.

Using WMP as an example isn't very good because there really isn't anything that WMP has that works well. Microsoft is constantly bloating their software, and I find it doesn't even manage my library well.

Well, that's my point. Maybe it didn't come across. Use MM for managing/organizing and Twonky for streaming. This has been my setup for a year and a half and it works perfectly.

The problem with streaming is that in order to control what is playing, you have to physically interact with the computer. My device has a remote control so that I can choose what to play directly from the device with the database served to it. If I had to go to the computer to choose what to play, then I wouldn't even bother with the device or Twonky to begin with. I have the computer on the 2nd floor and the device and stereo on the 1st floor. Last thing I want to have to do is go upstairs because I got tired of an album. I might as well stick with CD's in that case.

If I'm missing something, let me know.

Erhhh... my music is stored on a NAS. I stream from the NAS to the clients around my appartment by the means of Twonky (see below). Both clients (UPnP like Twonky) are controlled with a remote.

Only when I get new music or edit what I already got I use MM and let Twonky rescan. The rest of the time I just stream and stream and stream with NO pc turned on.

So how exactly are you using MM? It seems to me you are just creating a second database... i.e Twonky is just scanning your music after you have used MM to organize your files.... and then you are just choosing your music from that Twonky DB (i.e the Twonky Server). How is MM really doing anything?

At the moment, my system really isn't any different (except I my Computer is the server rather than a NAS). But Twonky's own DB is limited, and it breaks down with my library (which is only at around 15,000 tracks).

MM's library shows no hick-ups and allows for a lot more customization that would be nice if it could serve my upnp system. Not only that, but it would save having to have a second database, one of which seems to require a rebuild more frequently than it should. Twonky can't even handle MM playlists, which end up needing export, and for autoplaylists, the server just crashes.

Ultimately, this is less than perfect.

I use MM for managing and editing my collection - and I use it a lot. Twonky is NOT a manager/editor, it's a streaming software (media server). And yes - it "only" scans and streams my collection because that's the purpose of a media server, nothing else.

Without MM I couldn't stream (via Twonky) the CORRECT tags/the edited collection to my clients.

I couldn't live without this setup and haven't seen anything better. It works very well for me.
