MediaMonkey 4.0 localization files & instructions

Post by rusty »

Hi,

Just a quick note to let you know that source files and instructions for translating MediaMonkey 4.0 have been posted at : http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Localizations .

There are over 150 new strings from 3.x to 4.0 and a fair number of modified strings, so translating will likely take a couple hours work. Hopefully most languages will be able to be translated within the next 2 weeks, so that we have time afterwords to tweak any localization errors.

If you're interested in updating the translation please reply in the 'Who's doing what' thread.

Note: the posted language files (v4.0.0.1349) are quite stable and we don't expect many changes. Any updates to the language files, will be posted to this thread.

Thanks!

MediaMonkey 4.0 localization files [v4.0.0.1355]

Post by rusty »

Hi,

First of all, I wanted to thank all of you who are working on MM4.0 translations. It's not an easy job, but we're very thankful--a translation from a passionate user that understands music management is so much more meaningful than what a 'Pro' could deliver.

I also wanted to let you know that the source files posted at http://www.mediamonkey.com/contrib/loca ... atalog.zip have been updated to version 4.0.0.1355. There are roughly 30 changes throughout, mostly based on your feedback.

Unless we've missed something, this should be the final set of strings.

Thanks!

Just a couple of brief notes about MediaMonkey strings v4.0.0.1355:

1) installer.po only contains a subset of strings that appear in the installer (the majority of the installer is contained within '.isl' translation files that are maintained by the innosetup installer team). There is some manual work (currently) involved in integrating strings from installer.po into the installer, so once you submit your changes, please verify that everything works as intended in the next build.

2) Some of you may have experienced a bug downloading language files with Beta 2 (build 4.0.0.1355). If so, just download the file again (clear your browser cache beforehand), and redownload / reinstall. I initially posted the incorrect build, and Jiri updated it a couple of hours later :-(

3) You may notice a couple of nonsense strings ('FThumbGen' and 'FormSelectMediaFormats'). You can safely ignore them.

4) There's a string for 'Streams'. This string appears in the properties>details dialog for videos. It refers to the different audio/video streams that may exist within a single Video file. e.g. 1 Video might have both English and Italian audio streams.

Remember, if you're unclear about any string, you can right-click on it to see what part of MediaMonkey it's associated with.

Thanks!

Another hint:
For strings that include %n, %d or %s make sure to leave the %n (install.po), '%d' and '%s' exactly as they are in the original file:
e.g. msgid "Library now has %d files" _must_ have the %d in the translated string.

MediaMonkey 4.0 localization files [v4.0.0.1375]

Post by rusty »

Hi,

We're getting ready to release MediaMonkey 4.0 (a little bit later than we'd originally planned), and have made a few last-minute corrections / changes to the strings over the last few weeks. The updated source files are posted at http://www.mediamonkey.com/contrib/loca ... atalog.zip (they've been updated to version 4.0.0.1375). There are roughly 30 changes throughout, mostly based on your feedback.

This is the final set of strings for MediaMonkey 4.0. Please submit updates at your earliest convenience.

Thanks for your help and patience!

Some of you have been asking about the WASAPI-configuration strings added to the latest build. Here's a bit of explanatory text that might be helpful to understanding the terminology (much of this is from wikipedia):

In general, WASAPI operates in 'Exclusive mode' or 'Shared mode':
  • -In 'exclusive mode' (also called DMA mode), unmixed audio streams are rendered directly to the audio adapter and no other application's audio will play and signal processing has no effect. Exclusive mode is useful for applications that demand the least amount of intermediate processing of the audio data or those that want to output compressed audio data such as Dolby Digital, DTS or WMA Pro over S/PDIF. WASAPI exclusive mode is similar to kernel streaming in function, but no kernel mode programming is required.
-In 'shared mode', audio streams are rendered by the application and optionally applied per-stream audio effects known as Local Effects (LFX) (such as per-session volume control). Then the streams are mixed by the global audio engine, where a set of global audio effects (GFX) may be applied. Finally, they're rendered on the audio device.
For either of the above modes, the driver can be configured regarding how how audio samples are sent to the sound card; pushed or pulled:
  • -In Pull mode, also known as 'Event driven mode', samples are pulled by the Windows driver based on MediaMonkey-generated 'events'.
-In Push mode, audio samples are 'pushed' by MM to the sound card.
Hopefully this helps.
