It seems like the M4a audio type is not supported. MM wont see any of my M4a files (and there are a lot!)

Read and do this...
http://mediamonkey.com/faq/index.php?si ... artlang=en
...or search the forum for similar solutions!

And here is a good "how to install plugins".

It *is* supported. Please search the forums first. There's a lot of info out here.

Several sources:

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8197

OR

http://faq.mediamonkey.com/index.php?ac ... artlang=en

OR

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7076
http://home.tiscali.be/ruben.castelein/ ... in_mp3.dll
http://home.tiscali.be/ruben.castelein/ ... in_mp4.dll
http://home.tiscali.be/ruben.castelein/ ... bmp4v2.dll
Download these and put them in MediaMonkey's Plugins folder (normally C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Plugins) and then (re)start MediaMonkey.
Now, you should be able to play AAC, AAC+, MP4, M4A (iTunes).

Cheers

PS (edit): Sorry Bex, your responce wasn't there yet when I checked.

Can I convert M4A (jhymn output) to MP3 and keep the tags and cover art?

I just wanted to add that the current WinAmp plugins no longer work for m4a files in Media Monkey.

The ones (dated January 06) linked in this thread do, but the ones in the current install of winamp (dated March 06) do not.

That's interesting to know, thanks.

Just wanted to ask here if, one the plug-ins are correctly installed, if the existing tags on the aac files could be read within Media Monkey. It clear from the FAQ that you won't be able to edit them.

Also, would MM be able to sync those AAC files to an iPod?

Thanks.

I don't see January 06 or March 06 in anything in this thread

"The ones (dated January 06) linked in this thread": see the file links in this thread (some posts up) http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 0350#40350
The file dates are "January 06" (to see it, download these files and check the file properties).
Basically it means that if you want things to work, then you can use the files (plugins) posted in this thread.

Answer on the previous question (dcm693):
With the above posted plugin files, existing tags can be read within Media Monkey from mp4, but not from m4a (or similar files). I don't know about aac files. (As you already said, it's currently impossible to edit/write the tags for these files)

All MM supported music files should be uploadable to your portable music player, if the player accepts these files. So it depends on iPod if it accepts aac files (maybe it only allows some extensions?).

In theory (as mentioned in http://www.analogduck.com/main/m4a), you can rename your aac and m4a files to mp4 files, so maybe this will help a bit if the player or plugin does difficult. I'm not sure if this is always possible in practice, as I vaguely remembered myself doing this unsuccesfully.

Cheers
Steegy

And we're back to not working on M4A files. Dang. I am resolute against purchasing the 10 dollar plugin just to play that format. I used to love the MMonkey. Now off to invest in some other iTunes alternative.

Playback should be fine with Quicktime installed.

I have the newest version of Quicktime installed, did it yesterday when MediaMonkey said that I needed it to play AAC and M4A files. Have restarted MediaMonkey, then my computer, but I still get the same popup. Where can I find the .dll to paste into the MediaMonkey plugins folder to get this working? Also, can I paste the drm licenses anywhere and play my MP4 files?

DL the plugin and just copy paste to your mediamonkey plugin folder. I scoured the internet for other solutions but found that this seems to be the only way (for now) to be able to play my M4A files through mediamonkey. I got the beta version of the plugin, works fine and i dont get the "update to latest quicktime..." error message anymore.
