1342: Title bar behavior [7140, 7141, 5429, 7362]

Post by Boramis »

I've run into quite a few bugs with the combined menu/title bar (Windows 7 64-bit, 8GB RAM, two 1600x1200 monitors, Aero themeing). It could be due to the bugs, but so far I haven't liked it. There's plenty of space on the toolbars for the menu, so it seems like the change is more a bad attempt to "modernize" the UI than it is due to necessity.

1) The application icon doesn't show the window context menu, and doesn't respond to clicks. Double clicking on the icon should close the app.

2) When the window is maximized the vertical range where double clicking to restore works is much smaller than the title bar. Double clicking at the top of the monitor or just above the toolbars doesn't work, though it does if the window isn't maximized.

3) Dragging maximized windows between monitors doesn't work.

4) The maximize/minimize buttons and window movement in general don't work well if MM is busy doing something, especially during the initial load. Vista/Win7 usually lets you move windows even if an application is hung doing something in the foreground. With the new behavior the window is just stuck, with occasional periods of responsiveness until it's done loading.

5) The top edge of the window doesn't show the vertical resize cursor.

6) Pressing [Alt] on its own moves focus to the "Now Playing" menu instead of the main menu. To get to the main menu you need to use an accelerator like [Alt+F]. Though now that I play with it, MM3 was a little goofy too, since if you hit [Alt] to focus the main menu and then hit [Esc] it would switch to the "Now Playing" menu if it was visible.

Edit: Issues #2 and #3 appear to be related, and work differently depending on what monitor MM is on. On my primary monitor the vertical range is restricted on both the top and bottom, but as long as I get within that range I can restore or start the maximized drag. On my secondary monitor I can go all the way up to the top of the monitor and activate it, but the lower portion still doesn't work right. It looks like the non-functional portion is the extra height that the title bar normally doesn't have: That is, if I have a maximized MM window on top of a maximized window from another app, the working area is transparent, and the non-working area shows the other window's content.

I don't see this behavior on Vista.

Do you have the "Now Playing" menu visible (List/Edit/Copy)? It works correctly if that's hidden. I played with it some more, and you can actually get up to the main menu with it visible if you hit [Alt] twice, but that's still weird.

I don't know how much configuration would affect this, but I haven't done much. Here's what it currently looks like: http://imgur.com/mwPG0

I thought I had it visible, but it appears I didn't. You're right though, about it taking priority over the main menu bar. Doesn't bother me much though, as like you said, you can get to it with a second ALT.

I can confirm 1, 2, 4 and 5 on my system eventhough it is a single monitor setup.
6) if i press ALT twice i land in the Menubar, once and the focus goes to now playing.

OS is same (Win 7 64 bit) MM Version is 4.0.0.1342.

1) Context menu: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7140
1) Double click close: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7141

2) On XP and 1343 and double click the full vertical range of the title bar with the Vitreous skin

5) Seems to be an old problem: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5429

6) Seems to only occur when Now Playing Controls toolbar is enabled: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7142
