By reformat? Because I think anything less can be ineffective.

No, I used Windows Explorer to get rid of them, and they stayed gone until the next sync.

Stayed gone from the listing, but perhaps not actually from the device store.

Now that I do not know of, or a way to confirm or deny your claim.

Device System, Information, Track quantity.

That will only confirm the track/playlist quantity not the existence of the junk files.

Indeed, so to determine:

I don't think this confirms or denies the existence of the junk files. I have checked the Information before and although all the tracks/playlists are listed as they should be, I still have junk files when checking in Windows Eplorer. Since they are junk files the OS is not reading them, so therefore not counting them. Especially if there are several syncs between reformats, they just keep accumulating. Luckily I do not sync to my device's capacity, so I have room to spare for these junk files. But I would eventually like to sync more to my device's capacity, right now I am only using a third of it's capacity because it makes it easier to debug, when I'm in the mood to debug that is.

Nor I. But I think it does show whether your deletion has taken effect.

"Device System, Information, Track quantity." is independent of the OS, note.

I understand what you are saying but what I am saying is, other than using Windows Explorer I do not know of another way to check for junk files on the Zen. There is no way from on the Zen itself to see or delete the junk files, so when I delete them from the Zen I have no way to confirm they are gone without either a full reformat, a cleaning scan from the utility mode or from Windows. So when you say to check in Information, I am saying that does not tell me anything about confirming that they no longer exist on the Zen. And since 99% of them are 0kb, checking the size from within Information will not confirm or deny their existence either. So when I delete them and I no longer see them from within Windows, this visual confirmation is the only confirmation that I have that they are gone. So that is all that I have to go on unless someone can offer another way to confirm they are gone. But since other than you and I, there is no confirmation that they actually exist, I do not see anyone confirming that they actually no longer exist.

Don't you agree that if the Information track qty goes down by one when you delete a file you can see is junk, that confirms that file no longer exists on the ZEN?

Ok, I see what you are saying. The next test I run I will check the track count prior to deleting the junk files to see if the track count goes down.

I am new to MM, liked what I saw, and so decided to view the forum to research the compatibility of my Zen XFi before buying the lifetime license. Based on this thread, I'm very glad that I did.

The thread appears to have ended in October without resolution. Can the OP, or one of the users having this problem please update us on the status of any progress, or bug fixes by the developers. I certainly don't want to buy MM only to find that the developers do not have Creative Zen products on their radar.

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in replying - I only today noticed your request.

Device Configuration says Sync tracks to: \Music\DJ09\<Path>

I don't know if the problem is confined to WMAs. I have not seen it on other formats but have tried very few tracks of other formats.
