Synchronized playback multiroom [#7090]

Post by Rosgaard »

Hi,

I am a new MM user and wish to know if it is possible to playback music synchronized in several rooms.

Which hardware would be required if possible?

Regards,

If you mean to have several instances of MediaMonkey open and to have them all play the same tracks at the same time on different PCs... then no.

But of course you could just have multiple sets of speakers in different rooms output from the same box.

Not with MediaMonkey, but you can check out Sonos or Logitech Squeezebox

As MM4 introduced Media Server functionality (uPnP/DLNA) which support PUSH Playback to other Media Servers available on LAN (WMP support that feature using Right Click -> Play To) we were thinking of adding such feature but due high risk of regressions and as MM4 is still no official stable version it is deferred for post 4.0 evaluation when we gather feedback on devices that support such feature.

Personally It would Be ideal to be able to push playback of some track from single MM location to multiple rooms and take playback control of those players.

Version 1:
Kitchen: Queen - I want it all
Kids room: Aladdin Soundtrack - Whole new world
Gym: Girls Aloud - Jump (For My love)

Version 2:
Play "Queen - I want it all" to Kitchen, Kids room, Gym

EDIT: Already pointed in http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view. ... 090#c23335

I would love version 1 but will settle for version 2.

Playback of same track from MM to multiple rooms at once - YES PLEASE !!!!

I was out looking at the Sonos Play 5 last weekend and would have probably bought one if it hadn't sounded so poor. Not entirely sure why when everyone says how good they are - but there we are!

Basically I want to get top sound quality but use MM to drive it. It would need the grouping options of Sonos and the individual volume controls.

If people knew it could be done (and most people don't know about Play To) then I'm sure you would get a lot of new buyers.

Keep up the great work

As this feature is probably a while off you might want to check out the Logitech Squeezebox as it's similar to Sonos, but a bit cheaper. And it has: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =2&t=59515

No, that would be for 4.1 at the earliest if it gets done.

I was just searching to see if there was a ay for MediaMonkey to do this, and all I kept finding was this thread.

With 4.1, if there was even a way to play to multiple "players" instead of just selecting one, that would probably accomplish this. :D

Multiple players isn't supported. MediaMonkey 4.1 did implement Push (right click Player > Choose Player).

Right, that's how I'm choosing my player right now; but the thought is that if MM could support multiple players, the original request of synchronized multiroom playback might be a possibility.

Is the lack of support for multiple players a technical limitation or a feature request?
