Also Not Exactl A Bug... But ! [#11143]

Post by Al_G »

This one has been bugging me from when I first started using MM.

In the Year node, each decade is listed in the following fashion: "1990's", "2000's", "2010's". There should NOT be an apostrophe in the label - it's "2010s". It is plural usage and there is no possession.

I'm not sure if it ever will get changed but I feel better now.

Amen to that. I know most would find it trivial but it irritates me a great deal to see those superfluous apostrophes. How can these labels be edited?

I'm curious, from point Non native English speaker 1990s looks logical but what about 90's and '90s?

It's always been wrote that way as far as I can remember seeing it on numbers, looks strange to not have the ' in the 1990's typing

90's is the same error as in the original post.

'90s is correct as long as you are not writing formally. The apostrophe in this case denotes that characters have been excluded to shorten the word.

" '90s " is correct because it's an abbreviation. " 90's " is unnecessary apostrophe wastage. The apostrophe is serving no function at all there.
