My .wma tracks were not being tagged because of an unupdated version of Windows Media Player yet MM reported no errors that it was unable to write the tags.
I'm also wondering if it will report the error if the track is read only?
If the user is not notified of the errors then they cannot be corrected.

Hehehe, just testing the bump option of the forum (works well ) after reading this thread
Re: No Error reporting for failed .wma tag writes
There has never been any error reporting if tagging of files fails. I assume this is because Unorganized Tags can be used to find these tracks.
Although the idea of an error is a good one it should be smart enough to understand that the tracks aren't unavailable and then not report (or user configurable) as otherwise this would be really annoying as I have many offline files.

Then perhaps a check of "wma" required files on install.
"Media Monkey has detected Windows Media Player 9. Please update to version 11 in order to write to wma files"
or whatever it needs, ie like games that check for directx versions etc

I agree on that and it would tie in with the QuickTime issue a lot of users are dealing with. I agree that both on install and probably on start MediaMonkey should check if the required components exist (start check should be able to be disabled so users that don't use WMA/AAC don't see warning).
Of course the best would be that MediaMonkey handles all file types natively and doesn't rely on these third party applications. I'll move this to the wishlist forum.
