Importing MM5 Playlists back into the Playlist Tree

Post by MMhow2 »

Looking to add saved MM playlists back into my Playlists drop down. Cannot seem to find an option to do this. Searched through the posts and online manual and have been unable to find a mention of this.

Do you mean in the Send To > Playlist recently used list? Or which drop-down are you referring to?

If you're looking to scan external Playlists you can do this with Add/Rescan Files by scanning the location the Playlist files are saved: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... he_Library

Not that. I am looking to import the playlist list itself, not the content. I reinstalled MM5 and there was nothing under the playlist tree (Classic Rock, Dance, 90's, and so on). Once the list was there, I would do as you attached to find the corresponding media flies.

I saved the playlists and exported them before I reinstalled.

If you're upgrading from MediaMonkey 4 you can use the MediaMonkey 4 database itself, it contains the Playlists: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... r-windows/ You place the MediaMonkey 4 mm.db file in the MediaMonkey 5 database location and rename the MediaMonkey 5 database file from mm5.db to mm5.db.bak. Then when you start MediaMonkey 5 it will upgrade the mediaMonkey 4 database.

Or scan as mentioned above: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... he_Library

How to move from MM4 regular install to MM5 portable + library move

Post by lccseh »

hi ..i am a long time MM4 Gold user and have psyched up to make some changes. after reading numerous posts and guides, i am not confident so I am hoping to get some help here.

esp coz i don't want to lose all my hard work on numerous playlists, ratings, sync settings, etc.

current setup:
- MMW 4 "regular" install
- library is in a subfolder on HDD
- MMA for player, sync, rating songs, managing playlists

planned new setup:
- MMW 5 "portable" on a 1TB external USB flash drive
- copy library somehow onto the same 1TB usb flash drive
- use the 1TB flash drive on various devices
- continue to sync with MMA, regardless of which device the 1TB flash drive is plugged into, for player, sync, rating songs, managing playlists

once everything is working on the new setup, i will retire MM4

what are the steps so that i do not lose playlists, ratings, sync settings, etc.?

thanks in advance !

As stated elsewhere, you need the MediaMonkey 4 database file (mm.db) and you need to put it in the MediaMonkey 5 database location: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... r-windows/

so then, is this the correct sequence?

1. on the same pc that has mmw 4, install mmw 5 onto the usb flash drive.
2. if the install did not pick up the gold license, apply it.
3. exit mmw 5
4. copy my music folder from the hdd onto the usb flash drive eg. using windows copy
5. copy the mm4 database per lowlander's instructions onto the usb flash drive (even though my mmw4 is not a portable install?)
6. restart mmw 5 on the usb flash drive

6. Rename mm5.db to mm5.db.bak
7. Start MediaMonkey 5
8. Fix driveID: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... sign_Drive
