Auto-Organize: Create sub-folders only when Disc # is empty or zero

Post by Snofru »

I need some help with auto-organize but I am not sure if what I am looking for can be accomplished at all.

What I want is that with multi-disc albums sub-folders are created which look like \Fleetwood Mac\Rumours (Deluxe Edition)\Disc No. 1\01 Fleetwood Mac - Second Hand News (2004 Remaster).flac

For all single-disc albums I would like to keep it shorter: \Fleetwood Mac\Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits\01 Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon.flac

I could change the disc# for every song that is not part of a multi-disc album to zero or just have it empty. Is it possible in auto-organize to add this "Disc No." sub-folder only if the disc# tag is not empty or not zero?

Hi, you do not say why you would want to do this. Is it to do with the device(s) used to play the files?

If this is the case, then I would store all the files under Artist then Album and make sure the Disc and Tack fields are correct.

Then when you sync, you can use the <Disc#> and <Track#>

So the source files:

Code: Select all

Music\Fleetwood Mac\Trilogy\Monday Morning.mp3
Music\Fleetwood Mac\Trilogy\Warm Days.mp3
Music\Fleetwood Mac\Trilogy\Blue Letter.mp3
Music\Fleetwood Mac\Trilogy\Rhiannon.mp3
Music\Fleetwood Mac\Trilogy\Over My Head.mp3

I am assuming what works for MP3 will also work for FLAC. For some devices (e.g. motorcycle sat-nav) I find it is good to keep the file name short.

There is support / WiKi page on simple vs complex masks that might help:

The reason for this is mostly to have the tracks better organized in Windows Explorer which takes account of the Track# but ignores the Disc# and shows the songs alphabetically starting with all songs with track#1, then 2 and so on, just a mess.

While your solution is not exactly what I thought about it is just as good so I will use it this way. Thanks a lot!

Hi,

The Disc# from MP3s translates to "Part Of A Set" field in Explorer for my PC.

So if you add this column in windows explorer you can sort by "Disc"

Drag it to the left-most, followed by # for the track number and you can sort by one or both columns (use shift key for 2nd column).

I think there is a way to set the "view" at the Music folder level and have it cascade down through the Artist/Album sub-folders.

EDIT: Yes it works for my setup. File Explorer / View / Options / View / Apply to Folders.

Hope this is useful.

You can use folders_code\$If(<Disc#>,Disc No. <Disc#>\,)filename_code to create the Disc number sub-folder in case there are multiple discs (in reality when Disc# has value).

Note that you could also use something like this in the Filename instead:
$If(<Disc#>,<Disc#:2>-,)<Track#:2>. <Artist> - <Title>
