Input plugins for mod files worked in MM4, but are buggy in MM5

Post by sstoneb »

This is a pretty specialized issue for 90s/00s videogame nerds, so I'm not optimistic that anybody will be able to help me, but here we go:

I've just tried updating from MM4 to 5 on Windows and now some (very old) winamp input plugins that used to work fine aren't working fully. Although the music still plays, header and length info isn't working right.

To play old module/tracker files (mod, xm, it, s3m, etc.) I've tried the old modplug (seen at the bottom of https://openmpt.org/legacy_software) and more recent in_openmpt (https://lib.openmpt.org/libopenmpt/download/). To play PSF files (raw PlayStation Sound Format), the only option I know of is Neill Corlett's "Highly Experimental". I'm using the last version of HE, 2.0.9, which is on this archived page: https://web.archive.org/web/20130706023115/ http://www.neillcorlett.com/he .

(I had to put spaces in all my links because I'm a new user--sorry.)

Here are the behaviors I'm seeing:
  • title and artist info doesn't load, and remain blank in both the main panel and the playlist
  • the length of any given file isn't detected *until it starts to play*
  • if I go to a different folder and then return, the length has been forgotten
  • for PSF files specifically: when I begin playing a file, title/artist/length info suddenly appears in the main panel for *all the files in that folder*, but as above, this info disappears if I leave and return
Is this something that has happened to a lot of plugins? Is it possible that the MM4 behavior can be restored somehow?

I upgraded because MM4 seemed incapable of playing music encoded with Xiph's Opus codec, even after trying some plugins. I hope I don't have to keep both versions and switch between them based on what I want to listen to. :(

Support for most WinAmp plugins has been depreciated from MediaMonkey 5 as MediaMonkey 5 is moving to a cross-platform application: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... Missing.3F
