Hi,
That should not happen, How do you start MM5? Also try simply to rename MediaMonkey.exe from MM4 installation folder to MediaMonkey4.exe and you should not be bothered again.
Only other think I can think of is that MM4 starts on some system event while you starting MM5 but that will show after you rename EXE file and will be easily tracked.

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Thanks for the reply
sending across the link of the video where you can see what is happening.
I renamed the file as suggested and it seems to work.

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Hi,
that's really unexpected that MM4 starts automatically after MM5 start. The only I can think of are auto-play handlers like "Open MM4" after inserting an Audio CD or plugin in a device. But I suppose that you haven't inserted a media after MM5 start, right ?
Also I suppose that you installed MM5 to a different folder than MM4, right ?
Could you please catch this in a debug log (see item 4b here viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643 )
Thanks!

OK, so the debug log should show more (once you generate it and share)
Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Hello,
I'm having this same problem. This is the only relevant hit on Google as well, so there's clearly something weird on my end.
I'm running MM5 normal edition (not gold) using the latest beta debug version. I have MM4 gold (4.1.31.1919) with a couple but not too many addons, most notably Regex. I tried renaming Mediamonkey.exe and MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe to MediaMonkey4, but that didn't affect anything
I start MM5, and everything seems to be ordinary. Then in a half-minute to a minute, MM4 starts running, so they are both running together. Both seem to work ok.
I've never run a debug with this DebugView before, so I hope I did things right. Can't figure out how to upload a file so here it is on Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/by4ynxilg1bjh ... g.zip?dl=0

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Hi,
analyzing the log and I don't see any debug messages related to MM4.
Only these processes were running:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey 5\MediaMonkey.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey 5\MediaMonkeyEngine.exe
based on the log.
But maybe it is because you have not MM4 installed as debug build?
Can you install MM4 debug: https://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/MediaMon ... _Debug.exe
and generate one more debug log?
EDIT: And please ensure that MM4 is not configured in Auto-Play in Windows here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6bazc3r77c3h1 ... 0.png?dl=0
i.e. press WinKey + type "Auto Play" and press Enter

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Oh. Heh, that makes sense. No I only had 5 debug installed. That makes sense, I'll look at doing that.
Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Well this is a little strange.
First of all here's a log after I installed MM4 debug: https://www.dropbox.com/s/35o36e268ngcw ... 0.LOG?dl=0
When running the debugview, MM5 started, then MM4 started as it generally does - but it locked up and threw the error "this app appears to be frozen." After a minute or so it resumed
I closed everything, including debug view, and opened 5 again. This time MM4 did not freeze.
Anyway, hope you can get something out of the log file (and I did it right...)

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
Thanks, in the log I see that MM4 is strted by this command line:
C:\PROGRA~2\MEDIAM~1\MEDIAM~2.EXE -Embedding
Googling it https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forum ... =vcgeneral
"-Embedding is passed on the command line to an out of process EXE com server to inform the application that it has been started through OLE Automation as opposed to being started by user action "
So it must a COM server that runs MM4, did you install some addons to MM4/MM5 that could do this?
Could you try to temporaily unregister the MM4's COM server to see whther it does the trick?
see this https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... correctly/ for details how to register/unregiter it

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
OK, I had installed something called MediaMonkey Remote Server. It looks like it works w/MM4 but not with MM5. I bet that was the issue. I shut down the MM server, and it looks like it stopped running 4. So I uninstalled it, and it would seem that this probably solved the problem.
Thanks for the sleuthing. I'll report back if it turns out that wasn't it.

Re: MM4 loads up automatically
OK, do you remember from where you downloaded the "MediaMonkey Remote Server" addon?
