Rename function is not available in 5.0.0.2330 [#17689]

The "Rename" function (F2), when you right-click over an artist name, genre, composer, etc. does not work. It stays grey, as if nothing were selected.

Where exactly in the interface are you trying to do this? It works for me.

As I mentioned, over the name of an artist, or a composer, or a genre, the "Rename" fuction stays greyed and can not be activated.
It happens in grid view.

Where in the interface? This could be in the Media Tree (which node), the File Listing (what View), the Column Browser, the Playing Window.

I tried with the Filelisting set to Details and the Media Tree and F2 worked in both cases for me on 2330.

Thanks! I'm able to replicate. It looks like a regression due to the fix at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=17689

Hi, a year later I am getting the same problem, F2 option greyed out :(

All other options seem to work fine

MM 5.0.2.2532

Any thoughts please?

Select a song - then place the mouse pointer on a specific field - then F2.
Works perfectly under version MM5.0.3.2611.

If you mean here, I see the same thing in version 2611.
The option is not greyed out, but it doesn't work.

Or are you talking about this panel here.
There the option is greyed out for me also.

What are you doing?
It works for me.
Did you maybe change hotkeys?

Variant 1) WITHOUT context menu
Capture01.wmv

Variant 2) WITH context menu

Hi Erwin,

F2 key rename action works OK for me, except in the places I illustrated, ie. the inline album tracks panel in Grid View, and in the Album Detail panel.

What I noticed was not related to Hotkeys. In the first instance the Rename option in the right click Context menu did nothing.
And in the second instance the Rename menu was disabled in the Context menu.

btw neither my MM5, nor my MM5, installations have a Hot Key entry for F2. You have a Hot Key entry for F2?
I am presuming that the F2 response is hardcoded, because it is functional for me in MM5 in other contexts.

btw 2: I didn't view your images because the antivirus extension in my Chrome Browser said that it was a risky location where they had detected problems. I am confident that probably safe, by decided to be (overly) cautious.

Hi, Barry,

Whenever it comes to downloads, security is an issue.
DROPBOX is just as unsafe as you allow this software to access your computer.
Likewise MediaMonkey the auto-tag function from the Internet.
That's why I regularly make Windows system images.

Since Windows 10 I ONLY use Windows Defender with real-time protection and have not had a virus attack until today.

Also for me there is no hotkey F2.

It also works for me in the Album Detail panel.
What I noticed: you should aim the mouse pointer at about the middle of the field.

I find I have to left-click on the field I want to edit first before pressing F2 - This is in 2611 using material design.

ie if in list view or list by album view I select a track by clicking near Title, move the cursor over artist and hit F2, it will open Title for editing. To edit a specific field within a selected track, I must first click on it.

Hovering the cursor over the desired field is not sufficient. In grid view a click takes you to a different screen, so click and F2 can't work.

Right-click and rename seems to work for me in all cases that I have tried.

Hello Rob,
I've tested it again with the "Material Design" skin. Everything OK. Have you seen my two movies? (26 Mar 2022, 08:39).
It works as I described above.
I don't have to click in the specific field first, and then F2.
It also works for me in the Album Detail panel.
What I noticed: you should aim the mouse pointer at about the middle of the field.

I tried again, and I can rename in the Album Details panel now.
I am still running 2611, so I don't know what fixed it. As you could see in my last screen shot the context menu item was disabled before. Maybe MM5 had temporarily locked the track due to some alteration I had done to it, earlier, while testing the issue.

I am still unable to use the rename option in the the inline Album details panel while in Grid view.
See this video. .... That is different for you?

I am thinking that maybe the inline panels are read-only.
In that case the bug would be that the Context Menu needs to show options like Rename as being disabled in that context.

Hello Barry,
Sorry, those were the only views I didn't test.
I am still unable to use the rename option in the the inline Album details panel while in Grid view.
Yes, I can confirm this behavior.
