Playlist manager to quickly add songs to multiple playlists [#17602]

Post by 1001Musik »

I have a lot of playlists and need a way to easily organize new songs into several playlists. It would be best if you simply mark the corresponding playlists with a tick and the song is added.
Using the "Send To" menu is far too cumbersome. If a song should be in 4 playlists, I need about 20 clicks. I also have sub-categories in the playlists.

PS: I already mentioned this in the forum. But it's better off here with the functional requirements.

Idea: What if the Send To > Playlist submenu had a submenu titled "Multiple", which had checkboxes? So when you navigate through that menu and click on each playlist, it won't close the popupmenu and instead, it will just check the checkbox and add to the playlist in the background. When you're done adding the song to as many playlists as you want, you just click away from the popupmenu and you'll be done.

Would that satisfy the functional requirement in an elegant way?

Edit: Here's a rudimentary visual of my suggestion.

I uploaded many addons to MM's addon page, but not all of those were created by me. "By drakinite, Submitted by drakinite" means I made it on my own time. "By Ventis Media, Inc., Submitted by drakinite" means it may have been made by me or another MediaMonkey developer, so instead of crediting/thanking me, please thank the team. You can still ask me for support on any of our addons.

Thanks for the answer,
this is also an option, but it takes a lot of clicks. Right click - send to - playlist - 80s - 80s Fox - etc. - close. Are 6 clicks!

This is not effective and takes too long for a quick workflow. For example, I don't need anything on the right side of MM. An ad with all playlists would fit well. I can also imagine a floating window that can be moved freely using MM.

MM is a program to manage music. A playlist manager is included as standard.

I think that version 5 of MM will be better accepted if it offers the functions that users also need. Otherwise, many stay with version 4.

Hmmm; That's a fair analysis. Actually, I see that eepman, the creator of the PlaylistManager addon you linked, has talked on the forum recently. Maybe they'd be interested in porting their addon to MM5; I'll ask them. It's not in our interest to step on the toes of developers in the community. :slight_smile:

In the meantime, if you didn't know, you can drag and drop songs onto playlists in the media tree. That might be significantly faster/easier for you than using the Send To menu for everything.

The playlist manager plug-in does not have to be rewritten on MM5.
A playlist manager is generally integrated into the program. When I drag and drop it into the playlists, I don't see whether the song is already there. The overview is missing. It's annoying when I drag a song into a playlist when it's already there.

MediaMonkey will warn when adding a duplicate file to a Playlist.

I know that. It's annoying if you don't see at a glance which playlist the song is in.
MMW warns when adding a duplicate title. If you knew that beforehand, you could save yourself the step.

Hi,
Thing I think you are saying that you would like to have playlist tree available in Music Track list not just in Playlist Browser (To enable Playlist tree click on playlists -> View context menu and enable Playlist Tree), but also have it with Check mark to see which playlists contain the track when you can tick mark to add it as Last on that playlist?

Maybe even option to Hide other playlists which do not contain Selected tracks?

@rusty
I think this playlist creation facility is of fundamental interest.
There have been around 2,500 clicks for this addon since January 17, 2021.
By the way: I offered eepman my script via PM. Eepman has not responded to this day.
If you are interested, I am ready to send you the script for MM4, which I have revised.

@Peke
One more parameter would be interesting:
Automatically open (Expand) all Child playlists: YES / NO

Hi there Erwin,
Eepman also hasn't gotten back to me. We'd definitely be interested in porting the addon to MM5. Would you be interested in working with me to port your script to MM5? I'm happy to help where I can, as the architecture is pretty different from MM4.
How much of the code is your own vs. Eepman's?

Drakinite hat die Bedeutung dieses Scripts erkannt und versucht Urheberrechte mit "eepman" abzuklären um danach meine VBScript-Version in JavaScript für MM5 zu übersetzen.
Das Problem: "eepman" antwortet nicht.

Has anything come of this? I could certainly do with an option to add tracks to multiple playlists.
