I should have been more explicit--I was sharing that for Peke and the devs as that post appears to document the approach taken by xyxplorer.

Re: Configure an alternative file manager as an external tool
Hi,
THX Rusty for find. It would be interesting to set XYPlorer also in folder registry and see if that fixes it.
Let us know If you have any other issues and what XYPlorer devs said.

Re: Configure an alternative file manager as an external tool
Thanks Peke, I'm a little wary of messing with the registry as I don't really know what I'm doing but can you advise what key specifically I should try to set to XYPlorer to change the folder registry?
Re: Configure an alternative file manager as an external tool
Hi,
There is no need for you to test, I installed trial version of XYplorer and it do not integrate completely into Windows 10 file explore, it only replaces some parts.
Mainly here is how I tested:
1. Double click on My computer icon on desktop -> Windows file explorer opened
2. Right click on Any shortcut icon on desktop or in Start menu -> Open File Location -> Windows file explorer opened
3. Double click on My computer icon on desktop -> Opened drive letter -> XYplorer opened
4. Total Commander -> Right click Open folder -> Windows explorer opens
5. Firefox -> Open File -> Quick Access -> Windows file explorer opened
I also tried Changing Registry keys and have no way to set above to open in XYplorer. Lets hope that dev of XYplorer can shred some light.
EDIT: I forgot to add that in past only way to fully customize Windows explorer is to do complete replacement of explorer as default manager (Desktop included)
For Kids I use https://www.magicdesktop.com/en-us
but in the past I have used https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/ and https://www.deviantart.com/rainmeter and also few of these https://www.online-tech-tips.com/softwa ... -programs/ (bit outdated if I find newer list I'll update)

Re: Configure an alternative file manager as an external tool
Thanks Peke, I really appreciate you installing the app to test it. I must have it configured slightly differently somehow then because Windows opens desktop shortcuts and pretty much everything else in XY for me, including third party media managers>open file location.Peke wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 8:18 am Hi,

But I appreciate it's probably out of scope for you to investigate any more so I'll keep playing around with it and see if I can find a solution. If I find a fix or workaround I'll share it here in case anyone else has the same issue in future.
Thanks for trying!
