How to switch off the MM-Autoplay

Post by Frank »

Hi folks,

can anyone tell me how to switch off the autoplay function at MM?

I don´t want to start playing the loaded CD, but when the CD is mounted, MM pops up and play the CD...

Disabling autoplay

Post by rusty »

You can disable MM's association with CDs, which will result in MM simply looking up the CD upon insertion. This, however, might have the unintended effect of causing another app to open and start playing the CD upon insertion if your OS is configured to Play a CD upon insertion and another app was previously associated with audio CDs.

In that case, you can edit the registry to change this behaviour, or better yet, use Microsoft's Tweak UI to disable AutoPlay for audio CDs (via the paranoia tab).

For details re. tweakUI, see: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui

If you have WinXP it is really easy. Right click on the CD drive and click properties. In properties you have an autoplay tab where you can tell Windows what to do when a CD is popped in. You can even set different actions for different types of CD's.
