Assistant doesn't recognize MMA as a music player

Post by flamingchemist »

I'm trying to set MediaMonkey as the default music app on my new (Pixel 3) android phone, but I can't figure out how. It isn't listed under
  • Settings > Google > Search, Assistant and Voice > Google Assistant > Services > Music
  • Settings > Apps and Notifications > MediaMonkey
  • MediaMonkey > Options
  • Settings > Apps and Notifications > Advanced > Default Apps doesn't actually seem to have a music setting at all.
If I open the assistant and say "open MediaMonkey", it does open the app. If I say "play [song name] with MediaMonkey" it searches Google Play Music for "[song name] with mediamonkey". If I say "play music" it asks me to choose from a list of apps which does not include MMA.

I can't find anything saying support has been removed. I'm out of ideas and search engine results.

Hi,
MediaMonkey didn't get/passed Google Assistant testing, we are investigating better integration and only recently Google published custom triggers for external apps. I have same issue on Nexus Player where MediaMonkey do not get recognized as MediaPlayer, but if MMA is open then basic voice commands work.

Hi,
Try "OK Google -> Open MediaMonkey Application"? It usually work for me.

I recently upgraded my phone to Pixel 5a. I guess the Android Auto app is no longer a thing, but Assistant was able to handle "OK Google, play Baduizm" and the command went through to MMA; plays scrobbled and everything. (I didn't know for sure it was MMA playing until later.)

EXCEPT: the tracks were played in alphabetical order rather than track order. This is not good.

I found one comment online by someone with the same issue with a different media player; that guy claimed that the problem is with the media player, that there was some other player that played the tracks in order.
