Excellent having a develpment forum for MonkeySqueeze.

The lastest version (1.5.0.110814) has installed and run like a dream. So much easier than back in the days of cobbling together bits of code from here and there in the hope they might work and then having the regular expectation that it would, for some reason or other, stop working.

Fantastic job gingernut63 has done getting things to this stage and a real bonus that W3 sockets and a user guide is included in the installation. Not to mention the various improvements he has implemented over the original script(s)

I for one would like to thank gingernut63 for all his efforts and would encourage people to leave feedback, even though it may often seem like a small hassle to do so. Trust me - the hassles involved before gingernut's intervention were anything but small and days could easily be "lost" just trying to get things working not to mention keeping them working.

So if you install MonkeySqueeze please try and find a few minutes to leave your comments and feedback. Perhaps it will in turn help with ongoing and future MonkeySqueeze improvements.

Above all, enjoy MonkeySqueeze and Squeezing more music into your life

cheers

Looks like w3Sockets hasn't installed properly. Did you run MediaMonkey as an Administrator before running monkeysqueezev150110814.mmip? The package won't install properly if that is the case. If that is not the issue then follow the manual install instructions below. The user guide in the package will also provide assistance.

Go to the mmip file "monkeysqueezev150110814.mmip" and change the extension to .zip. Extract the contents to a folder using your preferred compression program (winrar, winzip etc ...). In the folder you will find 3 files, readme.txt, Socket.dll and SocketReg.exe. Copy and paste into a folder and name the folder w3Sockets. Move the folder to the c:\ and then right click on SocketReg.exe and select run as administrator to register Socket.dll.

Check that monkeysqueeze.vbs has been installed in C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Auto or C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Auto depending on your computer. If it isn't there copy monkeysqueeze.vbs from the unziped folder.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

I hadn't run MM as admin. Following your instructions W3Sockets setup gives the error Call to DllRegister server failed in C:\W3sockets\socket.dll. Any further advice appreciated and thanks for your help.

I forgot to tell you when running SocketReg.exe manually, right click on the file and select run as administrator. That should fix the issue.

Can't tell you why you had problems when installing MonkeySqueeze with MediaMonkey in administrator mode as it should install w3Sockets without any issues.

Give us an update either way.

Odd, seem to have lost my last post. All works perfectly, very impressed, thanks for your help. I do like straightforward software like this, written to solve a problem with the user in mind.
I use a program called Slimcontrol on a PDA as a remote for SS, it is a similar piece of straightforward software. Sadly there does not seem to be a similar program for MM, to run on my PDA.

Glad you got MonkeySqueeze working and that you are very impressed with the program.

For portable devices you can use MonkeyTunes to control MediaMonkey. Does a great job, you can view here: http://melloware.com/products/monkeytunes/. It may not support your PDA however.

Thanks very much for bringing us MonkeySqueeze. It is great to be able to use MediaMonkey with my Squeezebox.

I don't know if these will ever be possible but two things would make it perfect:

1) I cannot play any file with a special character (ie ";") in the path or file name. For example: Muddy Waters - Rollin' Stone; The Golden Anniversary Collection. I had to rename the folder to Muddy Waters - Rollin' Stone, The Golden Anniversary Collection to play it.

2) MonkeySqueeze inserts a second or two of silence between tracks. This is a distraction with classical albums or albums like Abbey Road or Dark Side of the Moon.

thanks again

Sorry can't answer why your first problem occurs. If you can use the character in you file names then it should play on MediaMonkey and Squeezebox. Just to make sure I tried a few different configurations of file names using different characters and didn't have a problem. Maybe I'm missing something??

Working on fixing the second issue as it is definitely a pain when listening to the music you mentioned. The lag is caused by buffering between the two systems. I don't think we'll be able to get rid of it totally but it may be reduced to point where it is less intrusive.

Thank you for passing on your feedback, it all goes towards making MonkeySqueeze a better product.

@ Gingernut63

Thank you for your quick reply.

A little more explanation:

I have innumerable folders using ";" in the name. None of the files in these folders will play in MonkeySqueeze. Just now I tried
"Brian Eno - Ambient 4; On Land". The files appear in the Now Playing list in Media Monkey, the progress indicates the file is playing but there is no sound. When I remove the ";" from the folder name ... presto there is sound. The same folder/files play fine in Squeezebox Server without renaming. Same result with "Johnny Cash - American Recordings IV; The Man Comes Around". Also "Gang Of Four - Is It Love 12'' Single" won't play with MonkeySqueeze unless I remove the " after the 12.

I might have to take the time to validate all 5,297 folders/78,148 tracks & purge the ; & " etc. Or maybe do it on the fly .... but why is this happening?

Also I forgot to mention in my first post that the "pause" doesn't work. It becomes "unpaused" after approx 5 miniutes. Also AutoDJ does not work as the next track often begins before the current track is finished. I have followed the instructions to untick remove silence etc but that was not successful.

thanks again

When I attempted to replicate the issue yesterday I forgot I was running the beta version of MonkeySqueeze  . Since I've activated the current version (V1.5.0.110814) I can now reproduce your problem.

The only way to alleviate your issues are to:

1. Rename all you folders/files to remove the non standard characters which will standardise the naming conventions (I would) or

2. Download the beta version of MonkeySqueeze and use it. http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 19&t=59907 Remember there is no user guide available for it at this stage. Copy the script and paste into Notepad and then save as MonkeySqueeze.vbs. Place the file in C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Auto or C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Auto to replace the existing version, then restart MediaMonkey.

The second issue regarding pause does not occur on my system. Running MonkeySqueeze V1.5.0.110814 on MediaMonkey 4.0.0.1420 Beta I had pause on for 90 minutes with no problems. If you are running MediaMonkey 3.2.5 then upgrading to Version 4 beta may fix the problem.

Your third issue with AutoDJ is related to the lag issue mentioned in the previous post. Suggestions as follows:

1. Deselect Crossfade in the Play menu

2. If using SqueezePlay you can download SoftSqueeze and use it instead. It appears to reduce the lag (still testing). http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/

3. Wait for the next version and hopefully it will be fixed, no guarantees however.

Hope these suggestions help.

I just would like to repeat my thanks for this script, and explain how it has been so important for me.

I always loved MM's visualisations, but to stream SS to MM on a PC connected to the TV had synchro problems with my other Squeezeboxes, so I gave up.

I had a remote server, but I had problems with it and MonkeySqueeze. So I've scrapped the server, put everything on a laptop with a USB pod and two 2TB sata drives from the server. Got a projector linked to the laptop for visuals. So I get all I want now with the bonus of losing a whole server and one button backup on the USB pod, plus everything synchronises with my Squeezeboxes.

Not to be beaten I managed to set up my old PDA as a remote, I used Salling Clicker, with a script someone had written for MM. I'll probably get a touch off ebay and use imonkey later.

Happy as a pig in muck.

Thank you for the glowing feedback. A lot of people have downloaded MonkeySqueeze but there hasn't really been a lot of comment in the positive or the negative. I have been wondering are people using the program or have they tried it and discarded it. mccstumble has suggested that the reason for the lack of communication is that the user guide does its job and gives people all the information they need. Anyway it is always fantastic to receive comments like yours, I'm sure all the people involved in the script over the years appreciate it, I certainly do. :D
