Seeing as you all have such large collections, what method of backing music do you guys use? (Please tell me you back up! :) )

I wonder those of you who have tens of thousands of files, how many of them are ever listened to? even once?

I have "only" 7000 tracks and many of them have been listened to less than 5 times in the last year.

I don't have a massive collection (about 7,000 tracks - 50GB) but in addition to my MP3 player (Nomad Jukebox 3 /w 80GB HD) I have two external USB drives to synchronize the mp3 folder on the computer. I use a program called Karen's Replicator (http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp to do the synchronizing.

I have over 30,000+ files, with some CDs still to be ripped.

I have listened to every single track in my library at least once, probably more often. This is due mainly to the fact that I listen to music constantly during work, which means 8+ hrs a day.

As for backing up, I use CD-Rs, burning two copies as they are so cheap. Although I don't bother backing up anything I've ripped from my own collection (except my kids' CDs, as they tend to get the crap knocked out of them).

One fear I have is that I'll put all this work into a nice library, then lose a hard drive (it's happened once already) only to have to start over.

Cross your fingers. :)

Currently sitting on about 32,000 songs @ 105 Gig alot is 64k but I am trink to replace that. I have about 7 Gig on my laptop that I lisen to on a regular basis. The rest is for DJ use and bragging rights
For back up I keep two copies of sepperate hard drives in you tower, one copy on a hard drive in the retail box and static bag, and about half is backed up on dvd-r & cd. I had a bad run with hard drives recently, three crashed on one DJ gig :o :( (bad power supply for external drive enclsoure)
I know use a dedicated mid tower with removable drives, much more forgiving, less to go wrong, and it mounts inside my Gig Rig.

My stats

Type Library Played
Artists 1057 205
Albums 983 181
Genres 122 -
Years 46 -
Playlists 7 -
Tracks 3054 729
Length (h:mm:ss) 307:32:09 77:29:14
File size 20.86 GB 5.96 GB

I thought I was doing good at 3000+ tracks @ 21 GB. But after reading the posts here I feel humbled ;)

You know, it would be cool if that statistics feature showed the total length in days, weeks, months, and years. I mean I have no clue off the top of my head how long 307 hours of music is.
