"Remove Unavailable Items" but in Scanning?

Post by caffeine »

I had an mp3 and flac version of an album:
  • M:\H-Disk\Hendrix, Jimi\1997 - South Saturn Delta\128\
    M:\H-Disk\Hendrix, Jimi\1997 - South Saturn Delta\flac\
I deleted the mp3 files and put the flac files in:
  • M:\H-Disk\Hendrix, Jimi\1997 - South Saturn Delta\
However, when I do a MM search on "South Saturn Delta", I see:

even though MM should be monitoring the filesystem for changes. So I did a rescan, but there was no change. The old 128kb/sec files are still showing up, even though I have "Remove unavailable items" checked.

Shouldn't they be deleted from the library? Is this a bug?

Did you scan the folder (or one of its parent folders) that contains the removed files?

Yeah, I scanned the folder itself (and also the entire collection) but no dice.

One possible source of confusion would be that my collection is on a linux server named satan that shares my music to the household via SAMBA/CIFS. The collection is mapped to a network drive "M", but MM knows my collection by its Windows URI \\SATAN\mp3\blah.blah.blah. So there *shouldn't* be any confusion or ambiguity since the collection and all references to it use the Windows URI. That's why I thought perhaps this might be a bug.

I'm never certain if manual scanning is to prompt the user about removed files (with that option enabled). I thought it is to do so, but it maybe is Folder Monitoring only.

Hmm. I had the same thought, but that wouldn't be good design (or at the very least, there should be two separate menu items for manual scanning and monitoring.)

Pretty mysterious... How does one report bugs? Would official support (I'm a gold member) be faster than filing a bug?
