auto update m3u's?

Post by cadmanmeg »

Is there a way to make playlist auto update via MM3? So if a song moves or whatever, it tracks it? What is the true power of playlist and the best way to deal with them? While I have used playlist a lot, I have never really ever explored much into them. Thanks for any and all info you can provide.

MM stores playlists in the database, so as long as you either use MM to move tracks, or have file monitor on when the tracks are moved, the playlists will be updated automatically with the new location.

To me, the best kind of playlists are auto-playlists (Gold only). These playlists look at whatever criteria you specify and automatically populate the playlist with songs that match the criteria. You can even specify how they are sorted (randomly, by album, etc.) and how long the playlists are (by size on the disk, by length of song, etc).

Have gold and never realized the auto playlist. Looks cool. How have some of you used it?

I have play lists set up to synch with my pod that do various things and are dynamic so that they will change with use.

Five star not heard in thirty days. (I use this to see if they are really 5*, since I have not used them for awhile).

Added in the last five days, not on synch list. (This automatically synchs new stuff).

I have a "Never Played" list, because my database only goes back to last August, this is constantly whittled down, because auto-playlists are dynamic.

Many more - but, yep... auto-playlist's make the cost of Gold liscense definately worth it.

Tho, Gold is worth it just to give the dev's what they deserve! (I do not buy much software, MM gold - no hesitation)

I use autoplaylists for almost everything...

80's playlist (songs from 1980-1989)
90's playlist
Not heard recently (not in the last 30 days)
A random albums playlist (displays full albums sorted randomly)
Recently added (within last 30 days)
Top 40 most played
Top rated

and various other playlists using my "classifications" (mellow, tranquil, upbeat, wild, etc)
